The Ripley and District Horticul-
tural Society held their annual pot
luck dinner meeting on Tuesday,
November 16 at 1.00 p.m. at the
Legion Hall.
Grace was sung and 28 members
and 2 guests,tat down to a delicious
luncheon. The committee of Mrs.
Frank Fair, Mrs,' Russell Brooks,
Mrs. Adeline Hackett and Mrs.
Duncan MacLeod decorated the
meeting.
The members exchanged Christ' -
mas gifts and the meeting closed
with 0 Canada.

Royal Victoria Hospital in Monti
real.. He -was the eldest son of
Oliver and Marion McCharles and
was raised on the family farm 'in
A,shfield on Highway 86 at the end
of the 15th road. He attended
Ripley District High School in the
early to mid' fifiies. Ms Grade 13
classmates were "Doc" Dorudd
John MacDonald, Mervyn Court-
ney and Shirley Marie Campbell
(now Mrs. Ronald Harris of
Rexdale). Everyone of those years
remembers Allan for gaining the
first and only point for Ripley in
1953 by running third in the mile
race at Owen Sound in the Owen
Sound Collegiate and Vocational
Institute, annual 'track and field
meet. EMployed with Bell
Telephone he worked for several
years in Toronto before moving to
Montreal.
'Allan is survived by his wife
Jean, two daughters and one son,
his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver
McCharles of the' Lochalsh area,
brothers Donald of Chatham and
John of Petrolia. Funeral service
was in Oakville on Monday of this
week. Sympathy is expressed to all
the family members in their
bereavement. '
Christmas Party
1„ucliatow CB. Club II held their
Christmas party in the form of a
dance at the White Carnation,
Hohnesville, dancing to the soilud
of the Blue Tones.
It was a fun filled night for the
members, as there were
exchanged. At 12:00 p.m. there
was a draw for a/ Turner piers; 3

Mrs. Ambrose Gamble atom-
panied Mrs. Bert. Irwin and Mrs.
John A, MacDonald who led in a
sing song of Christmas Carols.
Mrs. Glen Stanley iritroduced the
guest speaker, Mrs. Burton Taylor,
who spoke on house plants and how
to care for Christmas 'gift plants.
Mrs. Taylor gave some plants as
door prizes and Mrs. 'Reg Godfrey
presented her with a gift in
appreciation.
RECEIVED AWARDS
The culmination of the year's
work was realized when Mri.
Lorraine Relines, representing the
Royal Bank, presented the kvely
silver rose bowl as a trophy to Mrs.
Ewan MacLean, who had the most
total points from both flower
shOWs held / this year. Mrs-
MacLean also captured the special
$10. cash award from the society
for most points in cut flowers and
the Sears prize for most points
floral arrangements. These award's
were presented by the president,
Mrs.. Glen. Stanley.
A special meeting of .the
executiVe will be arranged later' to
prepare next year's programs.

The Township of Huron has a
new Reeve, With the retirement of
Reeve Russell Stanley, the position
was contested by Deputy Reeve
Elmer &seltzer and Councillor
Mike Statham.
Mike Snobelen was elected,
polling 695 rotes to 371 for Elmer
Smellier,
Bert Elliott, a former councillor,
was elected Deputy-Reeve 'by
aeclamation.
'Iu the race for council, John
• Gamble led the poll with 721 votes.
Cecil Sutton polled 612 and Harty
Crellin 459.
Defeated in their bid for office
• were Gat•ry MacDonald with 381, a.
member of the present council;
Douglas Martin polling 340 and
William Bale with 264 votes. /
