shorting in the trunk of Mrs.
Gladys' Huston's' car were burn-
ing. They were extinguished with
minor damage.

BY,AB WYLDS.
Last Friday morning, as the
unexpected newt spread, Ripley
was again saddened to learn that
Albert Tout had passed away in bis
sleep. It certainly was sad news to
the Ripley Community as "Abby"
Tout was a well known and active
citizen and he will•he missed here.
It was just over a year ago that he
organized the Old Time Fiddler's
'Jamboree held in ,the new Huron
Township Garage as 'the opening
event of the successful Ripley
Huron Reunion.. It was,on Friday
evening August 1st and no,one
could imagine that in a few short
months both the organizer Ab Tout
and the M.C. Tory Gregg would be
. gone. As regular attendants and,
participants in . these jamborees,
Mr. and Mrs. Tout were known by
many throughout Western Ontario.
And at this time of bereayement
sympathy goes to Mrs. Tout, the
former Merle Weiland.
Albert James Tout was born in
Huron Township on Wednesday,
June 14, 1905. The funeral service
was held on Monday afternoon of
this week at the McLennan-McCre-
ath Funeral Home in Ripley with
Rev. Hugh Nugent of Knox Presby-
terian Church in charge. Interment
followed in Kincardine , cemetery.
On Sunday evening the Orange
Lodge and the Black Knights held a
special service at the 'Funeral
Home.
The new minister , at Knox
Presbyterian Church in Ripley and
Aslifield Presbyterian Church;
Rev. Hugh Nugent, 'has arrived
'from Wyoming in the Sarnia area,
and , he has had a busy time here
ever since. Last , 'Sunday he
preached the morning sermon at
Knox, on Sunday afternoon he was
inducted and on Monday afternoon
he conducted the funeral service
for the lane ^Albert rout.
Last Friday afternoon 'some of
the ladies-Of the Ripley Agricultural
Society held a meeting at 'the home
of Mrs. Katherine Coiling in
Ripley. Present were the following

president, Mrs. Marjorie Thomp-.
son of Purple Grove; lady secret-
ary, Mrs. Gladys Arnold Of Ripley;
and directors Mrs. Ewan MacLean
of Lochalsh, Mrs. Charles Smith of
the 15th north in Huron, and Mrs.
Katherine Coiling. They are M
charge of the floWer class at the
Ripley Huron • Fall Fair and

trophy, a silver tray and a hundred
dollar cheque for " 'winning the
championship in rutabaga.% (turnips
to us). In fact he made a clean
sweep of all .the classes in
rutabagas - about eight. Norman
Schmidt, his father, veteran exhib-
itor and judge is well known in
Huron Township. Norman and his
sons, including Larry, had 40
exhibits in the field crops at the
Royal and were awarded 40 prizes.
They had the reserve championship
in hay coming in behind RUssell
Bolton of Seaforth who once again
was awarded the big champion-
ship.' Norman took first and third
in wheat sheaves, while Fran and
the, writer were fifth and sixth.
This was 'a turn around from the
first and second atTeeswater„ Last
year it was the opposite way with
the. Ripley sheaves losing here but
winning in Toronto.' However it
gives the writer and his wife Fran a
good feeling to know that they
helped Norman get those exhibits'
up all those stair steps to the
upstairs of the East Annex in the
Coliseum. Jim Richardson; last
year's rutabaga king, was caught
with his turnips in the field under
the snow. Norman has been
exhibiting at the Royal from its
beginning and also for many years
at the C,N.E.
