Family Gathering.
On 90th Birthday
A pleasant family gathering took
place at Pinecrest Manor Sunday
afternoon when Mrs.. Carrie Ferg-
uson, formerly of Auburn' and
Waterloo, observed her 90th birth-
day. Present for the happy •
occasion were her daughter, Mrs.
Margaret O'Neill of Edmonton; her
son, Stewart and Mrs. Ferguson of
Elmvale; grandson Fred and his
wife of Elinvale. Also' present were
granddaughters Lynne O'Neill of
Edmonton, Mary Ferguson of
Elmvale, Jan (Ferguson), her
husband Clare Whetham and sons
Stewart, David ' and Craig of
Aurora.
Mrs. E. Wightman and Harvey
of town were also guests.

At Dungannon WI
Dungannon Branch of Women's
Institute held its, regular monthly
meeting Wednesday evening, Nov-
ember 3, at the home of Mrs.
Russell Alton, Goderich.
The. president, MnS. Elmer
Black, welcomed 22 members and
visitors, and opened the meeting
With all repeating the Mary Stewart
' Collect after' singing the Ode. The •
roll call "Tell of a recent current
event linking' Canada with other
world powers" brought forth
interesting and varied responses.
The financial report was given iy
the treasurer, Mrs. Harry Girvin.
Correspondence and business in-
eluded (1) a letter of appreciation ,
from Miss Helen McKeither, who
is retiring after 20 years' service as
Provincial Home Economics Ditec-
tor; (2) a letter from the depart-
ment asking for a transfer of life
membership of Mrs. Wilbur' Brown
to Lucknow Branch; (3) a visit to
Pinecrest Manor; Lucknow is
November 25, and a program for
this event was planned; (4) it was,
decided to renew the • Federated
News - 10 copies for $5.00; (5)
thank-you letters were read or
expressed; (6) plans to have the
W.I. Christmas Party Wednesday,
December 1, at 'Dungannon United
Church were begun, and the
executive will complete plans at a
meeting held at Mrs. George
Errington's, Monday, November 8
in the afternoon; (7) $74 was
collected for• the Arthritis Cam-
paign.
The motto "True wisdom lies in
gathering the preciouslhings out of
each day as it goes by", was given
by Mrs. Cecil. Blake.
Mrs. Russel Alton then introduc-
ed the guest speaker, Mrs. R.
Brock .of Goderich, who spoke on
China, telling of Hong Kong and
Singapore where her son,, his wife,
and two children have lived for six
years until recentlY, when they are
transferred to England. In her
interesting way she described and
compared' conditions of climate,
living conditions, servants, foods,
and students. A- display showed.
many gifts she has received from
their handicrafts , and from the
Philippines. Mrs. Alton expressed
thanks to Mts. Brock.
Collection was received, also
Pennies for Friendship, following.
which 'Mrs. Black gave courtesy
remarks. After singing 'The
Queen" and "W. I. Grace", a
lovely lunch was served by the
hostess and Mrs. Gordon Finnigan
and Mrs. E. Black.

35th Anniversary-.
St. Helens News
The family of ,Mr. and Mrs.
Albert Taylor held a dinner party at
Benrniller 'Inn on Friday evening,
November 19th .to celebrate their
parents' 35th wedding anniversary.
Those present were. Ken and
Felicity Taylor and soAs Javan and
Aaron of R. R. 2 Mossfey; Stan and
Dorothy Shulist of •Mississauga,
Roy and Marion Taylor and
daughter Renay of R. R. 3
Wingham.
Gordon Lyons is now home ftom
Wingham and District. Hospital,
where he was a patient for two-
weeks.
St., Helens W.I.
The regular meeting of the St.
Helens Women's Institute was held
at the hall on Thursday, November
4th at 2 pan; .
The president Mrs. Peter Chand-
ler welcomed everyone. The
meeting opened with the Institute
Ode followed by the Mary Stewart
Collect in unison. The roll call
"Bring the history of your farm"
was answered by '18 members.
Perfect attendance gifts were'
presented to Mrs. Peter Chandler,
Mrs. James Aitchison and Mrs.
Gordon Lyons. The collection was
taken by Beverly. Aitchison.
Mrs. Robert Aitchison presided
for the program with group singing
"This Land is Your Land", "When,
You and I Were Young -Maggie",
and "0 Dem Golden• Slippers".
Mrs. Gordon McPherson had the
topic on Quilts. She told the origin
of them and had a lovely display of
Quilt Tops. A contest on "Things
we have our grandmother's didn't"
was given by Mrs. Andrew Gaunt.
The motto, "Preserve things . of
the past, ,but press on to greater
achievements' was prepared by
Miss. Beatrice McQuillin and, read
by Mrs. Jarnes Aitchison.• All sang
"The Quilting Party" and, a
reading "Together we Work" was
given by Mrs. Tom Todd.
The meeting closed with "0
Canada" and "The histitute
Grace". A social time was enjoyed
while Mrs. Andrew Gaunt. and
Mrs.. Robert Aitchison served
lunch.
