Sally Campeau
Was WI Speaker,
:Panel Discussion
The Holyrood Wbmen's-Institute
met in. the Township Hall, the
evening of Thursday, November
4th, for the Education and Cultural
Activities meeting. The president,
Mrs. William MacPherson, wel-
comed members, and/All visitors,
.especially those from the Ripley
and Kairshea branches.
The meeting opened with sing-
ing the -Ode and the 'Mary Stewart
Collect was repeated in unison.
The roll call and minutes of the last
meeting were read by the Secret-
ary, Mrs. John Scott. Correspon-
dence included aninvitation to join
the BerVie W.I. on November 10th
at 8 p.m., to hear Mrs. James
Kirkpatrick's report on the Nation-
al' Convention in Prince Edward
Island; which' she attended last
June as a District Delegate. A
history of the Holyrood Hall,
including a recent photo taken, was
Presented by Mrs. Howard Harris,
and this is to be the property of the .
Tweedsmuir History Book. The
gift of eight decks of playing cards
was acknowledged; given by Mr.
and Mrs. Baker, former residents
of the Holyrood District: All
Institute members were asked to,
bring "goodies" to the December
meeting, at the home of Mrs. Jack .
Scott, and these are to • be used in
Christmas boxes for local shut-ins.
Mrs. Aoy. MacKenzie 'of Ripley
introduced the book "Looking
Back", memoirs written by the
Reverend Duncan ,McTayish of
London, one time resident minister
of the Salem charge. This book was
offered for sale. •
Mrs. Fred Page presided for the
program, and called 'on Mrs: P. A.
Murray who in turn introduced a
guest speaker, Mrs. Sally Campeau
of Wingham, in energetic worker
with Voice for Life. The efforts .of
the above organization is to protect
the dignity of all life, especially
that of the preborn Child; and to
• give the public valid information on
What is happening to-day. It has
been said that we are in the middle
of a moral crisis.
Mrs. Campeau showed slides on
prenatal development, and pointed
out , that it is a medical and
scientific fact that human, life
beginS at conception. Some
people, we were told, have the
opinion, that the developing fetus
is not a human. However personal
opiniOn does not alter the fact that
human life does indeed begin' at
conception. Abortion, therefore, is
wrong, because itis the killing of, a
human life.
Many operations, we know, are
done for social -and economic
reasons. The steps towards
abortion .have become so prevalent
that some Canadian Hospitals are
referred to as !abortion mills!, and
. now statistics show that during last ,
year, 50,000 abortions were done in
Canada, and 2 million in North
America. • -.
A panel consisting of Father .
Nolan of Wingham, Dr. P. J. Leahy '
of Teeswater. and Mr. George
Brophy of Lucknow respectiely
discussed the spiritual,• medical,'
and legal aspects of abortions, and
gave an open question and answer
period.
Miss Flora •NabrotskY.- of Tees-
. water, assisted by Mr. R. Campeau
of Wingham Showed a filmstrip
called "Very Much Alive", which
Pointed out fhe beauty of human
life, and gave positive solutions to
pregnancy problems, mentioning
the availability of services from the
organization called Birthright.
Mrs, Lorne Eadie addressed fitting
remarks of appreciation' , to the
panel, and also to all other 'people
who had assisted With the even-ing's program.
The Meeting closed with 0
Canada and the Institute Grace,
and delicious refreshments were
served , by the hostesses, Mrs.
Frank Maulden, Mrs. Alex Percy
and helpers:
