Congratulations to Jim Keane of
LucknoW and formerly' of Kings-
bridge who celebrated his 92nd
birthday on Wednesday, November
10. Relatives friends and neigh-,
bouts visited him on that evening
blinking birthday' congratulations
and best wishes. Jim was born on
November -10, 1884, the elder son
of John and Theresa .(Fougherty)
Keane and moved with his parents
to Kingsbridge from their farm at
Sheppardton when Jim was 6%
years of age, living , on the 6th
concession of Ashfield Township.
As . only 40 acres of • land was
cleared at that time, Jim tells how
every spring 5 acres of land was.
marked out and cleared of willows,
poplars, and elms. Using three big '
horses to cultivate, the first crop
grown was a crop of peas which
was sold at the elevators in
Lucknow (where the ,pig yard is
today). Jim is .married to the-
former Irene Moran and they have
a family Of one daughter Ruth,
Mrs. Bob Currie of St.: Marys, and
one son, Roy of Cardiff, Ontario,
five grandchildren and one great
grandchild. They sold their farm in
Ashfield to Mr: and Mrs. Derk
Logtenburg and moved to Lucknow
in 1960; Jim has. a keen memory
and is in good health except for a
knee that has been bothering him.'
Jim was admitted to the Wingham
and District General Hospital on
Thursday, November 11 for x-rays
on the knee. and hip. His many
friends wish him a speedy- recov-
ery.
Mrs. Fred Vassella is a patient in
the University Hospital, London.
Commencement Exercises at the
F. E. Madill Secondary School,
Wingham were held on Friday,'
evening, . November 12 in the ,
auditorium at 8.15. Presentation of
the Proficiency Awards were made
by' Mrs. Marian Zinn of Ashfield.

ceremonies were followed by a
reception in the gym.
MEMORIAL MASS
A hirge crowd attended the
Memorial Mass for the war dead
and deceased Knights of Columbus
members sponsored by the Knights
of Columbus council 5420. The
Mass was celebrated by Reverend
Father• Ed Dentinger, CAL on
Thursday, November 11 at 8 p.m.
in St. Joseph's Parish Church,
Kingshridge. Following the mem
orial mass, Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Needham presented a travelogue in
the Parish Hall. Master' of
ceremonies 'was Eugene Frayne.
Mr. and Mrs. Needham showed
slides of their trip to 'Rio, de
Janeiro, Johannasburg and Kenya
and told of their volunteer work.
The highlight of their trip was
Meeting with their• foster child in
Nairobi. Knights of Columbus
Grand Knight, Jerry Petrie thank-
ed Mr. and Mrs. Needham and
presented them with a gift of
money. Coffee and doughnuts
Were served and .a social hour
followed.
Students at St. Joseph's School,
Kingsbridge presented a Remem-
brance Day program in the school's
gymnasium on Wednesday after-
noon-, November 10. Interested
parents were guests., David Zyluk,
principal, of the scool, was the
master of ceremonies for the
following program:
Faith of our fathers; Grade 7,
What Remembrance Day means to
me in 1976; Grades Kindergarten
to 2 sang "Soldiers,. Sailors";
Prades 5 and 6 did readings
"Peace Tower" and "National War
Memorial"; Grades 3 and 4 sang
"Blowing In The Wind";. Grade 8,
poem by Debbie Austin on
"Remembrance Day"; Father Ed
Dentinger spoke followed by a
minute's silence, then a film, the
laying 'of poppies and 0 Canada.
VOLLEYBALL
Games of volleyball are now
being played, league standings are
as follows: senior house' league
volleyball: Toronto (team A) 3,
Toronto (team B) 0; Montreal 1,
Saskatchewan 1; intermediate
house league volleyball, Toronto 2,
Saskatchewan 0.
On December 15th the teachers
and parents will play volleyball
against the students. Mrs. Nancy
Park is captain of the teacher's
team.
It is very important that the
residents of Ashfield Township
attend the Planning Workshop
program held at the BrookMde
Public, School each Monday even-
ing beginning at '8 p:m. Be there
