' WHITECHURCH NEWS
On Friday. evening, November 5,
a program ,was held in Whitechurch
Community Memorial Hall prepar-
ed by the Women's Institute
committee Mrs. Nettie Ross, Mrs.
Lorne Durnin, Mrs. Agnes Farrier
and Mrs. Don Ross.
Mrs. Russel.: McGuirepresident
of the Women's Institute, presided
for program nuMbers. The
opening number was 0 Canada.
with Mrs, Farrier pianist; Jack
Whytock violinist gave a solo
accompanied by Agnes. Farrier;
Vickie 'Scott, Dawn Adams, Lisa
and Tamay Stone, Nancy and
Karen Quipp and Donna Thompson
sang The Joy of the Lord' and It's A
Small World; Charles McQuillan
gave numbers on the fife; a lady
from Corner Brook, Newfoundland
gave a humorous reading, The
Letter From Home to Johnny. This
lady was Mrs. George Kennedy.
She also gave an encore number;
Nancy and Karen Quipp favoured
with 2 dances to record music;'
Walter Dexter of Lticknow sang
solos,' Galloway Bay, the Scottish
Soldier and 'The Hills of Home,
with pianist Mrs. Farrier. ,
A skit was given by Doti de Boer,
David Ross and Billie Gibson; a
trio, Mr. and Mrs. Russel McGuire
and Miss Mary Hehn sang In
Times Like These, My Saviour -
Goes Before 'and In My Heart
There, Rings a Melody. Mrs.
Raymond Leddy of Lucknow gave
readings The• Old Violin and '
Backward Turn Backward. Mrs.
McGuire gave the story of the Little
Red Hen as applied to the world
today. Bob Soloman, 'with the
'Mouth organ and Mrs. Lorne
Durnin pianist with -their dance
tunes, had the audience keeping
time.
A skit "Counting, Eggs" was
acted by Mrs. Don Ross and Mrs.
Dave' Gibb. Misses Lprie and
Bonnie Clark of Luckriow gave a
duet Top of the World, Playing.

and for their second number, My
Savions Goes Before. Their
mother, Mrs. Leonard Clark was
pianist, Elroy:Laidlaw with violin,
Mrs. Jean Conley of LucknoW with
banjo and Mrs. Lorne Durnin

Black' Velvet Waltz.

Winfario Grants
In Huron County
Grants totalling $74,045 have
been 'approved for eight Projects 'in
Huron County from the proceeds of
the Ontario Lottery. The amounts
range from $62,500 to $625.
The Wingham arena is to receive
a grant tip to $62,500 for
renovations including the installa-
tion of new boards, a public
address system and to replace and
enlarge the arena's floor.
A grant up to $4,977 is .to be
made to the Corporation Of : the
Town of Goderich to assist in the
installation of a lighting system to
the 'Agricultural Park fastball
diamond.
The Ashfield and West Wawa-
nosh Recreation Committee. will
receive a grant up to $2,500
towards the construction of a new
ball diamond including the installa-
tion of bleachers, fencing and
lighting.
The' Seaforth Minor Baseball
Association will receive baseball
equipment direct from the Wintario,
PrOjects Office, fot an approximate'
value of $515 and the -sum •of $200
to assist in the purchase of
uniforms and caps for a total grant
with the

OUTER, S CLUB
On Saturday, October 30, the
.Level I and II members of the
Onter!S • Club, along with Doug
Peterbaugh, and.Mr. LaFlair, went
. to Tobermory to hike on the Bruce
Trail., They hiked for approximate=
ly eight miles.. A group of tired
students returned to Tobermory for
the long ride home.
SCHOOL ESCAPES NJURY
. Arriving at school 'on Monday,
November ,1. we found that there
were none of the'Usual pranks done
around the school this year. This is
an improvement over past years.
CAREER DAY
On Thursday, November:4, 1976
the Level IV and V classes along
with teacher Mrs. Dorothy Need-,
ham went to Kincardine High
School to hear people speak on
various careers. Reports are that
they had a very informative
afternoon.
STUDENT CARDS
This past week, out student
council class representatives were
of $715.
The Clinton Minor Soccer Assoc-
iation will receive soccer balls and I
nets direct from the Wintario
Projects Office for 'an approximate
-value of $328 and the sum of $550
to assist in the purchase of
uniforms and goal posts for a total
grant of $878. .
A grant up to $850 is to be made
to the Township of Stephen to
busy selling this.' year's Student
Cards to the students. They are
also Collecting money from our
chotolate bar sales,
INTRAMURAL VOLLEYBALL'
The champion boys' team for
intramural volleyball was Team 5
made up of Chris McGarVey,
Robert Regier, Ric Irwin, Jeff
Rouse, Brian Lowry, and Erroll
Lunday. 'The winning girls' team
was made up of Laurie Coiling,
Mary Anne Coiling, Denise Huber,
Heather Boyd, Kathy Fuller,
Corinne Boyle, and Debbie Gam-
ble.
TEACHER OF THE WEEK
This week, for teacher of t'he
week, we are doing our own Mr.
Doug Coultes. Mr.' Coultes 'has•
been everyone's favourite Math
teacher for the last seven years.
The Ripley students started him off
on his first teaching job.
He was born in Winghani and
edticated 'at S. ' S. '# 9 East
Wawanosh and Wingham District'
High School. • He received his.
Bachelor of Mathematics at the
University of Waterloo.
Mr. Coultes said he came to our
fair village to teach because `we
have a 'small school and following
his graduation he had an immedi-
ate opportunity to: teach. Besides
teaching, he participates in coach-
ing interschool sports and referee-
ing intramural sports.
We feel we are fortunate to have
Mr. Coultes teaching Mathematics
at our school.
