On October 14, 1916, the post-office in the village of St. Helens closed. Owing to the development of the rural mail service, the volume of business at the office had so fallen off that the department no longer considered it profitable' or necessary. The St. Helens office was 'among the first to be opened in this area and had served the pioneer settlers of .' Wavvanosh and Kinloss for .some time before an office 'was opened at Lucknow. cows. Angus MacKay, who for twenty- nine years served the Presbyterian Church in Canada as missionary and teacher on the Jhansi field in India, was Ordained into the Holy Ministry of the Church of Jesus Christ at an impressive service in Chalmer's Presbyterian Church at Whitechurch. Mr. MacKay went to India in 1927 as a volunteer worker and teacher and, through the years had pioneered teaching in jungle villages. 40 YEARS AGO OCTOBER 1936 Canadian Beaver were busy building a dam within three miles of the village and .it was•thought to be the first time beaver had ever been known to inhabit the streams in this vicinity. The dam building operation was on the farm of Rod MacDougall,. concession 4, Kinloss Township, across the Black Creek.
