teachers. They could stand by' and
let you take any courses you
wanted, just as long as you met the
requirements for your diploma.
But, where would you be in the
end? You may have the- required
English course's and Canadian
studies but without the proper
background in other courses where
can you go? •
Every college and university has
requirements for entrance that, you
must meet to be accepted by-them.
I don't think there are many, if any
students who graduate from Madill
who do not meet these require-
ments if they have really tried.
Teachers and counsellors can not
do everything; they must haVe the
co-operation and hard work of the
student.' as well. There are few
times when a person asks for help
that he does not receive it. Can the
students of other area high schools
say this truthfully?
I think the teachers, consellors
and principals of F. E. Madill S.S.
deserve a round of applause.
DAYLE MacDONALD, 12D.

Lately the senior biology classes
have been over-whelmed by Mr:
Gnay'.s' `fat jokes' along. with an
abundance of dreting advice, (and
living proof that it doesn't work).
It always, seems .to be the
teachers" that are young at heart
who supervise our' annual grade 9
night. Usually they are almost as
hilarious as the ankle-biters -Mr.

Mrs. Tiffin, just after her
husband-bought her a new fur Coat.
"I can hardly believe that such
beautifnl furs can come from Such a
small, sneaky, beast."
Her husband: "I may not ask for
thanks my dear, but the least you
could do is show respect."
Two teachers were overheard
talking in the parking lot.
Mr. Willis: "How'd you blow that
tire?"
-Mr. MacDougall: "Ran over a milk
bottle."
Mr. Willis: "Didn't you see it?"
Mr. MacDougalk "Stupid kid had
it under his coat."
Mr. Damsma: "Robert Burns
wrote 'To a Field Mouse'."
Dave Bennett: "Bet he didn't get
an answer."
Grade 9 Night
Due to 'a mistake in the last
council report, it' was stated that
Brian Jeffray was president of the
student's council. As every good
Madill student knows, Susan
Adams is president and Brian is
Vice president. •
Grade Nine Night Was held on
Friday,- October 15,' after classes.
Those who stayed for the evening
took part in various games for the
first hour. Entertainment was then
supplied by the drama club, the
cheerleaders and some members' of
the Lucknow Concert Band.'
Supper was held after a relay race,
with many still covered in flour
from trying to' retrieve lifesavers
from plates of flour with toothpicks.
The evening was topped off by a
sock hop with music supplied by
Bob Van Staalduinen and Chuck
Huntington. It's hard to know who
had more fun, the grade nines or
the senior Students, but from all
accounts the -evening was .a great
success, The student's council
would like to thank everyone who
helped in any way to make this
year's grade nine night one of .the
best ever.

HASN'T MADILL ALREADY
TOUGHENED ITS "CORE"?
One purpose of the 'Madill
Mirror' is to let the public, as well
as other students, know our
opinion On certain current issues
which affect us. The announce::
ment of a mandatory curriculum. in
grades 9 and 10• have brought a
variety of feelings to those of us at
Madill.
' Every student entering grade 9
in September' 1977 and after will be
required to take nine' compulsory
'subjects to graduate. Most of the
mandatory curriculum will be
required in grades 9 and 10: This
was announced recently by Educa-
tion 'Minister Tom Wells.
Will this make much' difference
to the students of Madill? ' My
feelings are that it will not'.. It may
change the year in which you take
certain courses. For instance, you
may have to take History in grades
9 and 10 as Canadian studies
instead of Law• or some other
Canadian course in grades 11' or 12.
I feel' we are very lucky at
Wingham and I am proud to go
there. 'The teachers really care
about, what happens to you and
teach you to the best of their
ability. The standard .of education
is high and the reason for it is the
