During the past week Mr. and
Mrs. Wray Osborne, on the
fifteenth north of Ripley, received
word of the death of her father.
Wray •and Mae are away to the
funeral. Her father, Arthur
" Whynott, who passed away in ;
Liverpool Hospital in Nova Scotia
last Thursday, October 21st, was 98
years of age. , Sympathy of the
Ripley Huron folks is extended to
Wray and May at this time of
bereavement.
This Ripley Huron district receiv-
ed, it first real miserable wintry
weather last Friday. By evening,
the intermittent flurries of ..snow
had partly whitened the ground.
With a rise of a few degrees, this
has since 'melted away. On Friday
night, in the, dark blustery sky over
here, two flocks of geese were
heard winging' their way over
Ripley.
With the School commencement
on Friday evening, some, thinking
of past years, mentioned it was
typical 'weather for the occasion.
Guest speaker was Walter Eifert of
Kitchener-Waterloo, former teach-
er-principal here and the valedict-
orian was Nancy McGuire • of the
Olivet area, now attending West-
ern University in London.

The wedding of Lynn Courtney of
Ripley and Freda McKenzie of
Kincardine Was held last Saturday
afternoon. Their reception • danCe
was held in the auditorium of the
new Ripley Huron Community
Centre on Saturday evening.
Last SatUrday evening it -was the
Achievement Night program for
the Ripley 4-H Agricultural Clubs.
It was held in Huron Tpwriship
Hall. The leaders of the grain,
beef, and dairy clubs, along with
the Bruce County office of Agricul-
ture, were in charge. After the
awards and trophies were present-
ed refreshments were served.

•On Sunday, Mrs. Helen Mac-
Donald of Detroit was back home at
Ripley Knox Presbyterian.. Church
when she was the guest speaker at
the • morning service. Rev. and
Mrs. J. R. MacDonald and family
came to Ripley from their native
Nova Scotia before going to
Detroit. Through the yeari they
made many friends in this area
where' they, took an active part in
community endeavours. Rev.
MacDonald, known as' Little, Joe,..
played third base on the Ripley
Intermediate Softball team.
Here for the weekend was Father
Donald MacLennan of Detroit._
Donald was visiting with his aunt,
Mrs. Norma (Neil) MacLennan.
While home here he attended• the
commencement. In years gone by,
when 'the big event for the school
was held in the Huron Township
hall, Donald was a student in it.
AnOther former graduate noted
home was Courtney MacDonald of
the lab staff at St. Joseph's
Hospital in London.
Miss, Jean MacDonald 'of the
staff at Pinecrest Manor Nursing ,
Home in ' Lucknow, spent the
weekend with her sister Noreen at
their home on Malcolm Street in.

The Lucknow Brownies held a
meeting on Tuesday, October 19.
The meeting started • with two
games, One, Two, Three and
Promise, Law and Motto. Fairy
Queen Jackie Rathwell. placed the
toadstool'after which Brownie Ring
was held.
In their work groups, the
following tests were•passed: sew-
ing On buttons, Dianne. Wilson;•
knitting, Tracey McDonagh;
Brownie motto,. Josie de Boer;
braiding, Lisa Barger and Cathy
Hamilton. At Pow Wow' Dianne
Wilson showed her leaf collection
for her collector's badge and Jackie
Rathwell showed some English
money. Plans, were, made for the
Hallowe'en pafty next week. Each
girl is to bring a friend' and come in
costume. The meeting closed with
the squeeze and the arch.
LANGSIDE
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs.
Simon de Boer who were married in
Chatham. on 'Saturday. '
Mrs. Nell of Stayner spent a
week with her daughter Mr, and
Mrs. Bob Bregman and fanfily.
Mrs. Georgel. Young of Wing-
ham, fOrmeily of Langside, is a
patient in • VVingha.m Hospital with
double prieumonia. We hope she
will soon be feeling better.
Little Lou-Anne, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Bongertman of
Teeswater, spent a few days last
week with her grandparents, Mr.
and -Mrs. Albert Bongertman,
while her mother was a patient in
Wingham Hospital. She was able
to come home on Saturday.
Mrs. Ian Wallace • of London •
visited with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Philip Stee,r on Sunday.

Week, members of the Ripley and
District Horticultural. Sopiety held
their meeting at the home of Mrs.
Tom Stewart in Ripley:' The, theme
of the meeting• was "Looking
Ahead to Future Flower Shows".

During the weekend, the stop
sign on the street to Ripley Post
Office • became uprooted and is
laying apparently undamaged on
the grass boulevard just south of
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Martin's home..
Visiting in Ottawa this week with
his son John, is Reg • Moore of
Ripley.
Well, baseball is over for the year
and it is the season for the weekly
Saturty night hockey show'on
