Mark Birth Of The Bab On Wednesday, October 20, Baha'is around the world comment- orated the Birth of the Bab. It is one of the nine Baha'i Holy Days on which work is suspended, if possible. On October 20; 1819, Mirza 'Ali Muhammad, known to history as the Bab, was, born at Shiraz-in the south of Iran. His parents were in a direct line of descent from Muham- mad, the prophet-foundei of the Islamic Faith, who • was , in turn descended from Abraham through his son, Ishmael. The Bab, Baha'is believe, is the prophet-herald of a new day -- the day of the unsealing of the books of knowledge and the establishment of the Christ-promis- ed kingdom of God on earth. At the age of nine, the Bab's father passed away and a maternal uncle, a merchant like his father, was entrusted with his upbringing. a youth the Bab was noted for great personal beauty, charm of manner, exceptional piety, nobility of character and absolute trust- worthiness. His marriage at the age of 22 produced a son who died while still an, infant. The Bab'i declaration in 1844 as• the forerunner of the promised one of all ages and his public martyrdom in 1950 paved the way for the adv6it of Baheu'llah, the prophet-founder of the. Baha'i Faith. Baheu'llah's 40-year min.= istry left mankind with the blulfr print for a new world order iwhoee basis is the unity of ail the peoples of the earth.
