On Monday afternoon, October
18, Capt. Sue Bellmore, Marian
Raynard, Suzanne Kirkland, Rosa-
lea Cameron, Nancy Thompson,
Lori McKim, Brenda , MacLeod,
Sharcin Struthers and - itimberley
Sanderson went On an outing with
Jim Beecroft of the Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority. They
went on`' 'a tour of the East
Wawanosh Conservation area.
Mr:Beectoft showed the girls an
aerial photo of the area they were
in and explained what the authority
is doing on the property. One thing
of interest he pointed out was that
in co-operation with the Bayfield
Bluebird Society, they erected
bluebird houses. Mr. Beecroft also
talked about the planting of
hedgerows as a means of food and
protection for birds and animals.
The guides were shown 'a' red pine
plantation and an area where
spruce and pine seedlings were
planted. They also saw three
methods of conservation concern-
ing the growth of trees. The girls
concluded the outing with a
cook-out, having hot dogs and
banana boats before going home.
This trip was part of the work on
the 'conservation badge.
The regular guide meeting was.
on Thursday evening as usual.
After inspection, dues were collect-
ed and horseshoe was fortaed. A
flag raising ceremony was then
performed. The guides finished
their work on the conservation
.badge. The tenderfoot worked on
the guide law and motto. The
canary patrol had campfire. The
. meeting ended with taps.
