Members of the Junior Farmers
Association of Huron County had
started to erect over 240 Century
Farm markers across the County.
In a series of work' bees, the Junior
Farmers constructed and painted
sign posts for all of the markers.
Century Farms must have been
owned by direct descendents of the
same fainily for 100 years or more,
also must be resided on and must
be in active operation.
Whitechurch School, S. S. No. 10
Kinioss, located on the- 2nd
concession just north of White-
churcli, was closed with pupils
being transported • to Lucknow.
Public School and Kinloss Central
School. The school, a' red brick
built in 1930 and VA acre lot was
sold with the plan for use as a
Mennonite Church.

Ronald Forster, Who purchased a
house on the farm of Mrs. Neil
Campbell in West VVawanosh,
moved it to a lot just east of
Lucknow, which.he purchased from
MacMillan, Bros.
The primary class at Lucknow
Public School was Brenda Brewer,
Teddy Collyer, Alvin Hodgins,
Arthur 'Howald, Shirley Irwin,
Patricia joselyn, Jimmy Lyons,
Junior , Marshall, Shirley Mc
Gerald Mowbray, Carl Nesbitt, Ji
Pedersen, Donnie Reid, Marion
Ross and Robin Treleaven.
Carpenter work commenced on
the new Silverwood's building on '
LucknOw's Main Street.
P. W. Hoag was elected presi-
dent of the indoor softball league
and Harold Thompson, secretary-
treasurer. Seven teams , entered in
the group.
50 YEARS AGO
OCTOBER 1926
The section of swamp road and
hills to the west of the' village was a
scene of activity. A steam 'shovel
was cutting into the hills and the
clay was loaded onto the tram of
dump wagons which carried it
down' to the swamp section. A
crushed gravel surface was plan-
ned to finish the job.
The house of Bert Ward on
Stauffer Street had a narrow escape
from fire as a spark from a passing
steam tractor ignited 'the corner of
the verandah. .

PRIMARY SOCCER
The boys and girls in Grade 2
and 3 are• having a soccer tourna-
ment. There are three teams .with
the captains being Jeff Godfrey,
Robbie Brooks and Dennis Germ-
an.
GRADE 1 AND 2
Grade 1 and 2 welcome Miranda
Cockayne to their class. Miranda
has returned to this school from
Prince Albert, Alberta.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
DAY
We had a Professional Develop-
ment Day. It was a chance for
some to go to the Ploughing Match.
News this week for October 18.
_News is very scarce this week.
' We hope' that all the teachers
and pupils had a good Thanksgiv-
ing. Best of luck to the Cross
Country Team which is taking part
in the Regional Cross Country meet
at Bruce Beach. • • °

SOUTH BRUCE SOCCER
TOURNAMENT
On Friday,' 'October 15th our
Elementary Soccer teams compet-
edln a tournament hosted by the
Lucknovv Public School. The Girls'
team won the championship by,
defeating Lucknow 1-0 and W. E.
Thompson .1 - 0. Goal scorers were
Darlene Coiling and Janice Elliott.
The boys were defeated 2 - A by
Elgin Market and 2-1 by W. E.
Thompson. Ripley's goals were
scored by Harold Peet and Danny
Lamb. '
BRUCE COUNTY CROSS
COUNTRY MEET
Several Grade 7 and 8 students
participated in the 7th annual Cross
Country Meet held in Paisley on
October 16th. Members 'of the
team from Ripley District School
were: Janice Elliott, Michele
MacTavish, Pammy Elliott, Heath-
er Harris, • Mary Farrell, Larry
Nixon, Murray Scott.
LANGSIDE
Sympathy is extended to the
relatives of Ira Wall who passd
away in Wingham Hospital on
Tuesday,' October 12th. Ira was a
cousin of , Clifford, and Wesley
Young.
Shelley Gardner of Lucknow
spent Saturday at the home of Mr.
and' Mrs. Clifford Young. '
Hilda de Boer, daughter of Mrs.
Roely de Boer, underwent surgery
on her eye in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London two weeks ago and on
Saturday returned for an examina-
tion.. The eye is _much improved
and it is believed with the help of a
contact lens Hilda will not need to''
wear glasses.
