Fall Thankoffering
At Church
- The Fall Thankoffering meeting
of the Women's Missionary Society
of the Lucknow Presbyterian
Church was held in the church
Wednesday evening, October 13th
with a good attendance of women
and men.
Mrs: Morgan Henderson presid-
ed, opening the meeting with 'a
Thanksgiving poem and following
the singing of a, hymn Mrs. Scott,
favoured with a piano solo. Mrs.
James Little read the scripture, a
meditation and , two Thanksgiving
poems. ,
The'male quartette followed with
two numbers, "Burdens are, lifted
at Calvary" and "His name is
wonderful''.
Rev. Glenn Noble introduced the
speaker, Rev. Mr. Garratt of the
Anglican • Church, who gakm an
inspiring , thanksgiving address,
reminding us that of all people,
christians should be thankful to
God and should show thankfulness
in kindness to others and praise the
Lord for all his benefits..
'The' male quartette favoured

following the offering, Mrs. Hend-
erson gave the offertory prayer.
Mrs. Laidlaw, thanked Mr. Gar-
ratt and all who had taken part.

Women met in the Parish Hall (for
their October meeting. Mrs. Cliff
Roulston opened the meeting with
the A.C.W. prayer and the' Lord's
prayer folloWed by' a Litany, of
Thanksgiving. , •
Mrs. -John Warren read the
scripture, RoMans 12:.1-8. Mrs.
Roulston read the study "The
relationship between Christ and his
disciples gives us direction" which
• was based on St. Paul's Epistle •to
the Romans, chapter 12, verses 4
and 5 "For as we have many
members , in one body, and all
members have not the same office,
So we being many, are one body in
Christ and every member one of
another". '
Mrs. Warren and Mrs. Roulston
reported on the meeting in DUrham
that they attended.
The president, MrS. Harold
Cooper, presided for the busineSs,
' Miss Ruth, Thompson read the
poem "The Path I Had Feared"
and ,Mrs. Roulston 'conducted a
contest "Take Your Choice" with
Mrs. Cooper the winner.
The closing thought was -a. poem
"The gospel according to me" and
the meeting closed' with prayer.
Lunch and a social time followed.

The' Anglican Church Women
met on. Wednesday afternoon at the
home of Mrs. Gerald Rhody with an
attendance of 17 members and • 7
• children. Miss May'l3oyle presided
and the meeting opened, with a
reading on the theme .` `Thanksgiv--
ing" and prayer: The hymn "The
love of Christ constraineth" •was
sung and Mrs.. Gertrude. Walsh
read the scripture lesson after
which all joined in the General
Thanksgiving and the Lord's pray-
er.- The meditation on "Thanksgiv-
ing" was given by Mrs. • Delbert
Hedley bringing out the real
meaning of thanksgiving.
Mrs. Ronald, Thacker read the
minutes and the "correspondence
which included invitations to the
U.C.W. Thankoffering meeting at
Kinloss, the Kinlough W.M.S.
Thankoffering meeting and to
Pinecrest Manor Lucknow.,

The financial report was' given
•and it was unanimous that the '
ladies pay the full amount of the
new church steps which have now
been built recently., The word for
the roll call was "Give" or
Mrs. 'Art Haldenby
invited the ladies to`her home for a
quilting. Miss Edna Boyle
reported on the Deanery meeting.

The St. Helens. United Church
Women met on October 12 at Miss i•
Isabel Miller's home. There were
thirteen ladies and one child
present.
Mrs. A. Cook, charge of
worship service, opened the meet-
ing with Psalm 100. This was
followed 'by a , prayer in which
everyone took part. •
Hymn 579 was sung. The
meditation, read by Mrs. Cook,.
was entitled, "A Time to Thank the
Great Spirit". She closed with
prayer.
