The regular meeting of St.
Helens Women's Institute was held
in the hall on October 7 at 8.30
p.m.
The president Mrs. Peter Chand-
ler welcomed everyone and the
meeting opened with the Ode
followed - by the Mary Stewart
Collect in unison.
The roll call "Tell and show a
craft you have participated in this
past year" was answered by 14
members and 4 visitors. The
treasurer's report was given by
Mrs. James Aitchison and the
correspondence was read. Several
ladies volunteered to canvass for
the blind. A donation is being sent
to the Arthritic Association.
Mrs. James Aitchison and Mrs.
Peter Chandler attended' the Fall
Rally in Dashwood on October 4th
and Mrs. Aitchison gave the
highlights of the Rally. The card
patties will be starting this fall. A
Remembrance Day Service will be
held at the hall on November 9th.
• Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock of Aub-
urn was guest speaker. She
showed glides of her trip to the
F.W.I.C. convention in Prince
Edward Island. She 'was thanked
and presented with a gift by Mrs.
Ernest Gaunt. .
Mrs. Gordon' McPherson presid-
ed for the program. The motto
"Before keeping'up with the Jones,
find out where they are going" was',
prepared by Mrs. Ross Gammie
and given by Mrs. Gordon Struth-
ers. A reading "Visiting Grandma
on Thanksgiving" was given by
,'Mrs. Keith Tyler.-
Mrs. Frank Mewhinney gaVe 'a
selection of current events. Mrs.
Ernest Gaunt gave a reading on
"October Magic" folloWed by the
singing of Sing to the Lord of
Harvest.
The meeting closed with 0
Canada and' the Institute GraCe.
Mrs. Gordon McPherson and Mrs.
Gordon Lyons served a delicious
lunch.

Mrs. Mary Austin of London is
spending a few days with her sister
Mrs. Robena. Stewart of Teeswater
formerly of Langside.
A Christian Fellowship evening
Was held on Friday' atLangside hall
in honour of Simon de 'Boer and
Barbara Morris who will, be
married on October 24th. The
program' consisted of favourite
hymns, bible readings and friendly
.discussions after which lunch was
served and, .a social; hour enjoyed.
Mrs. Robertson, Liane and
Heather and Mrs. Osbund, all of
London, called on Mr. an,c) Mrs.
Clifford YOring on Saturday.
Some from this area'attended the
Teeswater. Fair ,on Saturday.'
Special -music at Langside
church on Sunday was two num-
bers by -the choir 'Thanks be to
God" and "For the fruits of His
Creation".
Marty Young and Hilda de Boer
were two ,of the Langside White-
church Young Peoples who attend-
...,ed the Young Peoples Convention
at Forest held on the weekend.
Liane Young visited on the
weekend with her cousins Sharon
and Cindy. Struthers.
Mr.. and Mrs. Ian Wallace,
Nancy and Susan of London and
Mr. and Mrs. Don Bell, Wayne arid
Beverley were guests for Thanks-
giving dinner on Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. Philip Steer.
Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Young
moved to their new home,. in
Lucknow on Wednesday. They will
be missed in thiS community.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Winne
spent the weekend at their country
home on the 6th of Kinloss and had
as 'guests on Monday. for Thanks-
giving dinner their son and
daughter-in-law and their daugh-
ter.

Huron, held a dinner party in
honour of Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Scott's' 37th wedding anniversary..
Those, present were Mr, and Mrs.
Jack Scott, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Scott,
Barbara and Blair, Mr. and Mrs.
Bob Scott and family', Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Scott, Mrs. Frank (Eliza-
beth) Fair, Mrs. Mary MacDonald,
Mrs. Margaret Blue, Mr. and Mrs.
Hiram Pangburn.
Mr. and Mrs. George Burt, and
son Michael of Oshawa spent 'the
weekend with. Mr: and Mrs. Bill
Burt.
Mrs. Fred -Guest underwent
surgery at University Hospital,
London, on Monday. We wish' her
a speedy recovery. Fred remained
in London for a few days.
Mr.' and WS'. Dougald McIntyre
of Elm Creek, Manitoba, visited
during the week with Mr. and Mrs.
Art Haldenby and Mr, and Mrs.
William Haldenby and other rela-
tives here and also with George
Haldenby in the Wingham and
District Hospital.
David and Pauline Preiss spent a
few days at the home of -Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Burt while, their mother,
Mrs. Fred Guest, was in the
hospital. .
Mrs. Marretta Hodgins of Lon-
don spent the weekend at her home
here. Other visitors at the same
home were Miss Eileen Gelman
and Mrs. Peggy, Elliott of Detroit
and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth
Hodgins and family of Niagara.
We extend sympathy, to Mrs.
George Anson in the passing of her
brother, the late Gerald Brindley.

We regret to report the loss of
five of our residents during, the
month of September. Our sym,
pathy goes out to the families of
Mrs. Gertrude Wrightson, former-
ly of PaiSley; Mrs. Anne. J. Galliher
of Port Elgin; Ben Brough of Tara;
Peter Murray of Chepstow; and Joe.
Ditner of Mildmay.
Activities of the month consisted
of euchre and solo on Thursday,
September'. 9th and euchre on
September 22nd. We also had six
bingos of our own and the Royal
Canadian Legion Auxiliary, Branch
102 came and held a monster bingo
on September 24th.
Charles Etherton showed us
beautiful sides of New 'Zealand
and the Orient on Friday, Septem-
ber 3rd. Our residents thoroughly
enjoyed them as he explained each
picture in detail. "Chuek" as he is
familiarly known, lives in New
Zealand and is a steward of one of
the airlines there.
Our. Resident's Council met on
Tuesday, September 14th in the
Tuck 'Shop area and expressed the
wish to take .a bus to. Beaver Valley
to see the coloured leaves in
October.
The Catholic WoMen's League of
Walkerton, under the convenership
of Mrs. L. Weiss, came and put on
their first fall euchre. Mrs. Mary '
McKay and Mr. 'Frank Schlosser
were the high prize winners while
Mrs. Stewart and Dr.. Robinson
won the consolation prizes.
Our birthday party, for those
having birthdays in September,
was held on Tuesday, September
27st with the Chepstow and Cargill
sponsoring it.' Father.
Culliton was M.C. and did a fine
job with his hrimour and wit. Mrs.
Vasey •of Cargill was pianist and
along with several ladies of the i
parish conducted a' sing song with
our residents, joining in. . Our
birthday residents were then each
presented ,with a suitable gift and
after singing "Happy Birthday"
and "They Are Jolly Good Fel-
lows", ice cream, cake and juice
were Served to all.
On 'Thursday, September 23rd a
bus load 'of our residents went to
the Bruce County Museum in
Southampton. They all thoroughly
enjoyed it and saw many things
that brought back pleasant memor-
ies.
We had Fun and Fitness each
Monday 'at 1.45 p.m. in ' our
auditorium 'with exercises and
singing for about one hour.
Father Newstead comes the
fourth Monday of each month to
celebrate mass at 10.45 a.m. in our-
chapel. The ministers for the
month, were Rev. P. D. ,Mellegers,
Presbyterian, Paisley; Rev. H.
Stevenson, United Church, Ches-
ley; Rev. D. Kemble, Presbyterian,
.Walkerton and the Salvation Army,
Hanover.
On Wednesday, September 29th,
our residents went by bus, station
wagon and car to the International
Ploughing Match which they thor-
ougly enjoyed. Many thanks to
Rennie Weiler for arranging it, and
also to the Burley Bus Company.
We wish to welcome to our
home, five new residents, namely,
Mrs. Annie Opperman, Philip
Erneweiti, Mrs. May Henry.; Clar-
ence Poechman and Mrs. Clara
Brautigan, Be back next month
with' more news and activities of
our home. ,
