team effort all the 'way as everyone
contributed to the victory. s
This is the first time in history
that a Ripley Intermediate team
has won the WOAA Championship
and coach Doug Cdultes is to be
'congratulated. for moulding a
winning team, especially with the
number of walking wounded on the

RIPLEY DEFEAT BADEN
. On Saturday night in their 3rd
game of thb day, 'the Ripley boys
defeated Baden (Intermediate A
champs) by a score of 6-5. Floyd
Stanley and Elliott Courtney shared
the pitching duties,, while Larry
Irwin had 3 big hits to lead the way
at the, plate.
RIPLEY DEFEAT ST. PAUL'S
On Sunday afternoon the local
boys got revenge on SI. Paul's 'as
they knocked theni out -of the
tournament 'by virtue of a 3-2
victory. Elliott Courtney again
went the distance on the mound
and scored 2 of Ripley's runs to
help his own cause.
CHEPSTOW DEFEAT RIPLEY
In their 2nd game on Sunday,
Lucknow Wins Intermediate "B"
Championship, Take Chesley Team 5-1
In 14th Inning To End Season
This past weelcend the Ripley
Intermediates reached the semi-
finals in 'the brand Championship
softball tournament which was held
in Chepstow and Cargill.'
RIPLEY DEPEAT FULLERTON
In the first game Ripley defeated
Fullerton (Major A winners) by a
score of 3-Q, with Elliott Courtney
allowing only 3 hits. After scoring
2 runs in the first inning, everyone
played error free ball, to defeat a
team which was picked by most'
people to. "win it all".
RIPLEY LOST 2-1 TO ST. PAUL'S
In their 'second game on Satur-
day, Ripley was defeated by St.
Paul's (Major Junior champs) by a
score of 2-1. A very controversial
call at '3rd base resulted in' St.
'Paul's Winning run. Elliott
Courtney went the distance on the
Lucknow Intermediates dropped
the first game 6-5 to Chesle,y in
what was supposed to be a best of 5
:series for the W.O.A.A, "B"
softball championship.
Due, to rainy weather and the
possibility of having to play
back-to-back games, the Lucknow
team went along with -the decision
to make the series 2 out of 3,
Playing in Lucknow for • the
second game,' they soundly deqat-
ed Chesley 6-2 with all the players
at their best.
Lucknow • also managed to lose
the toss for the 3rd game and had
to .journey journey to Chesley Thursday
night for the 3rd and final game.
This proved to be one of the best
games of the year for both teams
which went . 14 'innings with
Lucknow eventually winning by a
score of 5-1. Hugh Todd sparkled
with.24 strike-outs and pitched' a 2
hitter.
Lucknow got their 1st run in the
first inning by George Klages'
single 'and advanced to home base
by' hits from Hugh and Wayne
Todd. With. 'sharp infielding,
Lucknow held the score at 1-0 until
.the ninth inning when Chestey,
snuck a man, home tieing the score
'and putting the game into extra
innings. Only three men reached
1st base in the next 3' innings.
Chesley's batin the 13th perhaps
was the turning point in the ganie.
With a bunted pop-up, Pete
Chisholm appeared front nowhere
to catch it and throw to Ray
Cranston covering 1st, with the
runner" off the base, for a double
play.
During LuCknow's bat in the 14th
Bob Cranston walked. • Ray
Cranston hit and George ,Klages
walked to intentionally load the
baseS. . Wayne Todd, 'full of
determination, hit a triple to bring
in 3 runs and then came in himself
on a wild pitch.
The.boys are to be congratulated
