Agricultural Society. •
An interesting and varied selec-
tion of exhibits were on display in
the hall, the pet section was well
filled, and an excellent, horse show
was provided including seven
tandem teams and unicorn hitches
'.in the heavy horse class. Margie
O'Neil won the Hoffmeyer trophy
in the pony race. Special mention
should be made of the 4-H 'Calf'
Club which held Achievement Day
as part of the fair. ,
Winners in the Dairy type were ? ,•
seniors,. 1st Neil. Sager, 2nd Jim
Nivins; juniors, 1st Sandra Nivins,
2nd Steve Sager; Jim Nivins won
the Robert McCallum trophy for
showmanship and Neil Sager was
reserve champion. •
Winners in Beef type were,
seniors, 'Donna Hackett, 2nd
Jim Nivins; juniors, 1st Ian
Hackett; 2nd Janice Allen. Grand
Champion in showinanship was Ian
Hackett, reserve champion Donna
Hackett. The reserve champions
each received a 50 lb. bag of
mineral donated by Bob Farrish.
In' the class for best beef steer,
winners- were, seniors, 1st Jim
Nivins, 2nd Sandra Nivins; juniors,
1st Greg Hackett, 2nd Ian Hackett.
In the.field crop section a prize of
a bushel of seed corn was donated
by Paul. Eedy, Stewart Seed agent
- and won by Paul Eedy.. For a
quarter, bale of, first cut hay the
prize of seed for 1 acre of
Glengreen hay pasture mixture,
donated by Harvey Culbert, was
won by Bob McNeil.
The prize for best matched team,
donated by Hodges Milling/ was
won by. Allan Horsburgh,llolstein;
for best mare on line donated by
' Jim Aitchison, won by Tindall
Belgian "Acres, Lucan; for unicorn
hitch, sponsored by Gary Kerr,
won by Ken Brown, Moncton; for
single wagon horse, sponsored by
Arnold Young, won by Allan
Horsburgh, Holstein.
In horse races a halter donated
by H. 0. Jerry Hardware was won
by Jack Pollard of . Ripley driving
Glen Rothes; a cooling blanket ,
donated by the Old Mill was won by
Paul Coulter driving Noble Stein:
' The baby contest attracted a
group of sixteen babies which gave
the judges some serious considera-
tion. Winners of up to 6 month
class were 1st Aaron Hackett, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hackett, R,
R. 3 .Goderich; 2nd Larissa Sproul,
daughter of .Mr. and Mrs. Gary

Winners over 6 month class 'were

Five new courses are being
offered this Fall at the F. E. Madill
Secondary School, Wingham, start-
ing on Tuesday, October. 5th at 8
p.m. and. Wednesday, October 6th
at. 8 p.m. -

of wool, Vacation Geography
which• will cover those Canadian
centres popular as tourist: attrac-
tions across Canada, and starting

Provincial. Convention of Family
Care Workers at Clinton. The
convention was hosted by Huron'
County and was held at both
Clinton and Seafdrth on Friday
evening ,and on Saturday both_ day
and evening,
The. Whitechurch Langside
Young Peoples enjoyed bowling at
Wingham on Saturday, evening
after which they gathered' at the
home of Mr, and Mrs. Jim DeBoer
where a social hour was spent and
lunch was served.
Congratulations to 'Mr. and Mrs.
Bill. Moffat of the 2nd concession on
the birth of their daughter in
Wingham Hospital. A 'first
grandchild for Mr. and Mrs. Dave
