At Holyrood WI
The Holyrood, Women's Institute
met on Thursday evening, Septem-
ber 4nd at the home of Mrs. P. A.
Murry with ,a good attendance.
The president, Mrs. William Mac-
Pherson, was in charge. '
After the opening exercises Mrs.
John Scott, secretary treasurer,
read the correspondence, which
incluiled a resolution about. the 'use
of seat belts, and the Area
Convention which 'will be held at •
Chesleyi on November 15 and 16.
Mrs. P. A. Mrirray was` elected
delegate for the firs( day and Mrs.
Jack Scott and Mrs. William •
MacPherson will attend on • the
second day. The report on the quilt
block was given '•by Mrs. P. A.
Murray who was in charge of it.
Further plans were made for the
banquet at Ripley. The roll,call was
a nutritious food beginning •with
your name. •
Mrs. Ellwood Elliott was in
charge of the program and a
reading was given by Mrs. Harold
Smith. The motto, which Was
prepared by Mrs. Marion Harris,
was read by Mrs. Ellwood Elliott.
It was "Swallow • Your Pride
Occasionally - it is 'not fattening".
REST SPEAKER, MRS. KINNEY
The topic was on "Social
'Welfare" and the guest speaker
was Mrs. Kinney of Kingsbridge (a
nurse for many years) anct a
volunteer worker in Detroit. She
' ' told °many things about the
conditions there and answered
many questions and chatted with
the ladies afterwards.
DEMONSTRATED MACRAME
Another guest was Mrs. Donald
Fisher (Elaine Murray) of Barrie
who gave a very interesting
demonstration on Macrame and
had the ladies' do it. Mrs. Raynard
Ackert thanked both guests and
presented each of them with •a gift.
The lucky ticket holder was Mrs.
William MacPherson. Mrs. Ray-
nard Ackert and Mrs. Alex , Percy
talked on weeds.
Mrs. Kinney acted as judge for
the butter tart 'contest, and the
winners were Mrs. Raynard Ackert
and Mrs. P. A. Murray. 0 Canada
and Grace closed the meeting after
which a delicious lunch was served.
The October• meeting will be the
"Family Night" and will, be a pot
luck supper in the hall at 7 o'clock
on October 29th. Directors, Mrs.
P. A. Murray and Mrs. William
MacPherson.
ST. HELENS
. Miss Janet MacPherson is at-
tending Farishawe College' in
London. She is taking a course to
be a medical Secretary. Miss Gail
MacPherson has accepted „a posi-
tion with London Housing Author-
ity. This is a branch of the Ontario
Housing Corporation.
Recent visitors with Mrs. Ross
Errington were Mrs. Norris Wil-
son, Mrs. Joe ,LaGere and Jannet-
Ae, all from' Stoney Creek.

St. Helens Calvin United Church
celebrated their 114th anniversary
on Sunday. Rev. Harley Moore of
Grand Bend was guest speaker for

great, great grandparents are Mr.

The first meeting of the Clover
Valley 441 club for the project
Clothes for Leisure, was held on
Thursday, September 2 at 7.30
p.m. at the home of Mrs. ,Joyce
Elphick. The leader, Mrs. Blanche
Hamilton, opened the meeting with
the 4-H pledge. The •election of
officers was as follows: president,
Annette Elphick; vice president,
Helen Simpson; treasurer, Donna

Wawanosh Man
Died In 71st .Year
ROBERT T. LYONS
Robert Thoephelious Lyons of R.
R. 1 'Lucknow and retired West
Wawanosh farmer, Raised away on
Thursday, September 9th at Wing-
ham and District -Hospital in his
71st year. •
He was born in West Wawanosh
Township on November 23, 1905, a
son of James T. Lyons- and
Roseanna Hunter.
On January 30, 1929 he married
Urena Purves. They have lived al'
their married life on the same farm,
concession 12.
The late Mr. Lyons is Survived by
his wife, one, son Robert W. J.
Lyons, on their home farm, West
'Wawanosh; 2 daughters, - Mrs.
Howard (Doris) Culbert of R. R. 1
Dungannon and Mrs. Gordon
(Margaret Rose) Neabel of Cale-
don; 9 grandchildren and 3 great
grandchildren; three brothers Alek
of Hamilton, William of Lucknow
and Gordon of West 'Wawanosh.
The funeral service was held at
MacKenzie Memorial Chapel,
Luclmovv on Saturday, September
11th. Rev. Glenn• •Noble of
Lucknow Presbyterian Church .was
minister.
Pallbearers were Donald Gaunt,
Thomas Pritchard, Philip MacMil-
lan, Cecil Garniss, Ross Gammie,
Robert Johnston. .
Flower bearers were Donald and
Jack Culbert, Brian and Dannie
Neabel, ROn Snowden.
The late Mr. Lyons was a
member of Zion L.O.L. 1044 and an
associate member of the Lucknow
Legion 309.

ing a Sewing Box by Mrs. Hamilton
and Choosing Clothes for' Leisure
and Getting Ready to Cut Out
(fabric) by Mrs. Elphick.
In group work we worked in pairs
and took each others Measure-
ments,- The meeting closed with
the 4-H creed.
