Start Fall Season
The Happy Heart's Club of
Ripley started off the Fall Season
with a pot luck 'lunch at -noon
Friday, September 10th at .the
Legion. Hall. There was an
attendance of 80 or more members
and several visitors. •
The theme song and sing song
led by Reg Moore opened the
program. Bill Henderson recited a
poerii "Be a Booster". This was
followed by a solo from Miss

Council Minutes
Kintom Connell 'met on. Septem-
ber , 7th, the reeve and all council
present. After the minutes were
adopted, the following business
was • dealt with. By-law 164915
was amended by passing by-law
7-1976 to rezone part' of lot 16,
concession 5 from Al to M3. A
petition was accepted from Earl
Harris and others for 'a repair on
the Harris drain.
Court of Revision was opened on
the L. W. Eadie drain and as there
were no appeals, the court was
closed and by-law 6-1976 was given
3rd reading subject to O.M.B.
approval. The tender of Dave
Inglis was accepted on this drain at
$19,800.00. This is deleting the
County Road portion Which the
County will do' on their own and the
open portion which Hanna and
Hamilton Construction will con-
struct at $440.00. The tender for
Coldstream Concrete Ltd. -for tile
was accepted at $14,264.17. H. M.
Gibson Ltd. was asked to do a study

Semi- Final Series
On Sunday night, before a good
home town crowd, the Ripley
Intermediates lost to Union 24 in
what could have been anyone's
gime. Dan Kelly was on the
mound for Ripley and struck out 11
batters, while' brother Doug called
the signals. JaCk MacDonald drove
in Doug Kelly'for Ripley's only run.
This was the first game in the
best of 2 out of 3 series in the
Ontario. semi finals. Next game is
scheduled for Union on Wednes,day
of this week (tonight).
Ripley kliminate
Warminster Nine
Intended for last week
On Sunday afternoon, eptem-
ber 5, the Ripley Intermediates
travelled to Warminster and after
12 innings of play, finally defeated
Warminster 4-2. Ripley won the
series 2 games to none and thus are
zone champions in 0.A.S.A. play-
offs. The local boys now meet the
winner of the Southern Zone:
Elliott. Courtney and Dan Kelly
shared the pitching with Eric
MacLeod calling The signals. Doug
Kelly scored the winning run in the
12th inning, and Blair Armstrong
homered for the insurance' run.
DEFEAT ALLENFORD 7-2
IN W.O.A.A. SERIES
Last Wednesday, Elliott Court-
ney pitched a strong game for
Ripley to lead them to a convincing
win over Allenford. Larry Irwin
had 4 RBI's to his credit while John
Rudder had a great game at short
stop.
INTERMEDIATES
EDGE ALLENFORD 5-4
On Monday evening the local
boys travelled to Allenford and
came away victorious as Del
Stanley and Floyd Stanley shared
the pitching duties while. Eric
MacLeod was behind the plate..
The team is playing fine ball and
really appreciate the great support
the local fans are giving them. In
Allenford on Monday night 75% of
the fans were from Ripley and that
gives the team a big boost.
Marion Munn accompanied by
,Mrs. Howard Heritage (former .
Vera Crawford). Reg Moore gave
several readings such as "A.
Picnic" and "Value of a Smile"
and others. Violin selections were
given by Abbie Tout, accompanied
on the piano by Mrs. oNiolet
MacKenzie. Three duets were
rendered by Mrs, J. Kirkpatrick
and Mrs. Effie Sutherland.
The business part of the meeting
was conducted' by Mrs. Arnold and
Mrs. Blue.
An over 89 patty will he held at
Huron Villa Lounge on - October
22nd., Mrs. Lloyd told about
the canvass for the Arthritic Society
to be held this month'.
Miss Christens Robertson and
Mrs. Mary (Donnie) MacDonald
reported 'on the convention for
United Senior Citizens of Ontario,
held at • Brock University, St.
Catharines which they attended as
delegates, Angus(' 10th and 1 lth.
Members were reminded that a
Zone Rally will be ' held October
11th.
Ripley Defeat
Allipford Team
Ripley defeated Allenford on .
Wednesday night 4.3 and thus
polished them off in three straight
games to advance to the semi 'finals
against Belmore in W.O.A.A. play.
Elliott Courtney pitched 7 innings,
then 'Del: Stanley did another great
job in relief to keep Allenford off
the score sheet in the 8th and 9th
innings. ,
The Ripley runs *ere scored by'
John Rudder, Floyd Stanley, Andy
Burgess and Al Rhody. Larry Irwin
continued to come through 'in' the
clutch as he droVe in the winning
run. Al Rhody and Jack MacDon-
ald looked strong at the plate, each
contributing 2 good hits, while
Floyd Stanley had a triple and 2
singles.. "Punch" Emmerson
stirred things up with his aggres-
sive play in the 7th inning and then
rallied the team to victory from the
bench.
Another good following of fans
was on hand in Allenford to cheer
the team to victory.
lucknow Win
1st In Semi-Final
Good fielding and strong pitch-
ing by Hugh Todd led the way for
Lucknow Intermediates to a.4-1 win
over Brodhagen in the first game in
the best of• three series of the
VV.O.A.A. championship semi-fin-
als.
The game was played in Luck-
now on Sunday night with a large
crowd taking advantage of the
warm summer evening.
