Bill Kuik; 11-year-old son of Mr.
and Mrs. John Kuik of Ashfield,
recently caught a large pike, 33%"
long, weighing about 9 lbs., in the
Lucknow River.
THAT
Lucknow and District Leos will
resume meetings starting on Wed-
nesday, September 8th. Leos are
age 13 to 18 and new members are
welcome. Lucknow Leo Club
participated in a' Leo ball tourna-
ment in Blythe on Saturday,
finishing third.
THAT
Gordon Carter of Lucknow won
$1,000 on August 9 ,at the Clinton
Monster Bingo. Carol Carter won
$125.00 at a Goderich Bingo on'
August' 4. She split a $250.00
jackpot.
Lane Gardner returned last
Thursday having attended' the
Canadian Navy Veteran's Reunion
held at H.M.C.S. Discovery, Van-
couver. While in Vancouver Lane
visited his cousin Earl Gardner who
has retired from the position of
Vancouver City Paymaster and who
she has not seen for thirty-one
years. Travel was by Air Canada,
Toronto to Vancouver non stop,
four hours and forty minutes, five,
hundred and sixty mile per 'hour at
an altitude of thirty-five thousand
feet. Clear 'visibility provided
views of Prairie grain fields and
Rocky Mountain scenery.

MRS.. WALTER J. WRAITH
There passed away- in Wingham
Hospital on August ,17th Mrs.
Walter Wraith (the former Marg-
aret Canipbell) of Teeswater in .her
ninety-fourth year.
She was predeceased by, her
husband five years ago and one son
James R. D. Wraith of Oshawa.
Surviving are her daughter
(Annie) Mrs. Charles Knight of
Toronto, five grandchildren and
four great grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted
August 20th by Rev. Proud from
Maqherson's Funeral Home in ,
Teeswater. Burial 'was in Smith's
Cemetery.
Mrs. Wraith lived in Lucknow
about sixty *years ago when her
husband was employed, with the
Luclmow Sentinel.

Draws Near
Construction of Tented City has
begun at the site of the 1976
International Plowing Match .to be
held in Bruce County this year,
September 28th to October 2nd.
The '100 acre 'tented city space is
almost completely booked by 325 .,
exhibitors, which is an' all time
record for this time of the year.
The entire County of ,Bruce is
enthusiastically involved in the
twenty-two committees preparing
for the first International to be held ,
in Bruce County.
The Earl of Elgin will officially
•open the event on September 28th.
The Earl. is from the Family of '
Bruce after whom Bruce County
was named. His great grandfather
was Governor General of Canada
from 1847 to 1854. He adicomplish-
ed a great deal-for Canada; better
relations with 'the U.S.A. through
removal 'of: duties on natural
resources, agreements -on fishing
in the, Atlantic and shipping in the
Great Lakes and St. Lawrence.
JAMES RICHARD CURRAN
James Richard Curran of R. R. 1
Lucknow passed away at his home
West 1Nawanosh Township on
Monday, August 23rd, in his 62nd
year.
He was born in Ashfield Town-
ship on December 12, 1914, a son
of Herbert Curran and Mary
Saunders. '
On October 10, 1939 he married
Muriel Purdon of East Wawanosh.
The late Mr. Curran is survived
by his wife, one son Paul at home;
one• daughter. Mrs. Roy (Nancy)
Gardner, son-in-law Roy Gardner
and two grandchildren, Tracey and
Sean of 13elmont; one brother jack
Curran of Ashfield and one sister
Mrs. Tom (Dorothy) Anderson of
Lucknow.
He was predeceased by one son
Charles Richard Curran; his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert
Curran; one sister Mrs. Lloyd'
(Alma) Hunter and one brother
Bertram' Curran. •
The funeral service was held at
MacKenzie Memorial Chapel,'
Lucknow on Wednesday, August
25th, Rev. A. Cook of St. Helens
United Church, of • which 'the
deceased was a member, , was
minister.
Pallbearers were Allan Miller,
Donald' Gaunq Bill MacPherson,
Tom Pritchard, Kenneth, McWhiti-
ney, Wim de Boer.
Interment was in Greenhill
Cetnetery.
