Store when Mr. and Mrs. William
Haldenby opened for business.
The hamlet had been without a
store, for several months.
A car accident in West Wawa-
nosh Township claimed the lives of
Edwin Gaunt 13, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ernest Gaunt and Donald
MacTavish 15, son of Mrs. Gordon.
MacTavish. Donald Gaunt 17, a
brother of Eddy's escaped uninjur2
ed after being trapped in the car for
over an hour.-
A hundred years of postal service
at the hamlet of Holyrood was
officially marked when members of
the Holmod Institute organized an
historical night to mark the
centennial. It was on • August lst,
1856, that the first post office was
established at' Holyrood, with
Murdoch ,MacKenzie as postmast-
er. It was interesting to note that
the Holyrood post office was
established before Lucknow which
was in the , winter of 1858-59.

wrapped a rope around the man
and he was hoisted to the top of the
elevator where he was revived.

Died Suddenly
In His 76th Year
HARRY HACKETT
Harry Hacktt of Lucknow pas-
sed away August 13, at the.home of
his son David A. Hackett of
Ashfield Township, in his 76th
year.
He was bcirn in. Ashfield Town-
ship on August 10, 1901, a son of
the late Andrew Hackett and
Martha Webster. Following the
death of his parents at a young age
he was raised by his aunt and uncle
Eliza Jane and Joseph Hackett.
Harry married Lauretta Hackett
in 1926 and they farmed on the'10th
concession of Ashfield for a
number of years until retiring in
1958 when they moved to Lucknow.
He was a member of Trinity United
Church.
He is survived by three sons,
David ° A. and Alvin. of Ashfield
Township and George of Calgary,
Alberta; four grandchildren; six
step-grandchildren; two. sisters,
Mrs. Wilfred Drennan and Mrs.
Ewart Taylor, Lucknow, and two
brothers, Bill Hackett of Thornbury
and. Tom Hackett Sr., Lucknow. 'He
was predeceesed by his wife in
1962 and a daughter LaVonne in
1938, also two brothers and four
sisters.
The funeral service was held
from MacKenzie Menforial Chapel,
Lucknow on. Sunday, August 15th
at 2.30 p.m. Rev. A. 'Cook
officiated.. Interment was in
Greenhill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Blake. Alton,
Dynes Campbell, Bob Campbell,
Ron Alton, David Kirkland and Bill
Ross.
Flower bearers were 'Arnold
Stothers, Harold Hackett, Dave
Hackett, Eric Hackett, Jack Ackert,
Ron Treleaven, Eldon Bradley and
Vein Hunter.

Apiarist Passes
WILLIAM JOHN. REID
William John Reid, an Ashfield
Township farmer and apiarist,
passed "away at Wingham and
District Hospital on Wednesday,
July 28.' He was in his 83rd year.
He was born in Ashfield Town-
ship on March '12, 1894, a 'son of
John Reid and Elizabeth McQuoid.
On October 27, 1928 he married
Jean Wilson of West" Wawanosh
Township. .
The late Mr. Reid is survived by
his wife, two sons John K. Reid on
the home farm in Ashfield and W.
Douglas Reid of Sarnia; three
grandchildren and one sister Miss
Mabel Reid of Lucknow.
He was predeceased by a brother
Bert Reid,
The funeral service was held at
MacKenzie Memorial Chapel,
Lucknow on Satutday, July 31st.
Rev. Glenn Noble (of Lucknow
Presbyterian Church, of which the
deceased was a member was
minister.
Intiirment was in Dungannon
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mark Berger,
Tom Culbert, Donald Curran, J. C.
Drennan,'Merle Gunby', Bob Mole.
