' new Ripley Huron Recrea-
tion Complex is being used by the
community for different things and,
by different groups. For. .example,
last Weekend it was the site 'of the
Huron Bruce ArtS, and Crafts Show
frbm Friday morning up till six. on
Saturday eyening. Already, before
its closing, preparations were,
underway for the annual beef
-..barbecue by the Ripley and District
Liens Club on Sunday,. Out at the
farm home of president, Bob Fair,
43n the tvvelfth,concession in Huron,
they were washing and wrapping
the potatoes. Howard Hcidgeovith
his 'tow truck, was bringing the
roasting ovens down to the west
side of the complex. The two
• ovens, which were made at
Howard's Garage, are equipped
with removable wheels for towing.
When not in use they are stored in'
• the old Huron Tovvnship .garage
which originally was, the north , end
of the . Ripley Huron Fall 'Fair hall
and in the winters prior to .1927 it.
Was also used as the skating,
hockey, and curling rink.
A check at the komplex on
Saturday morning showed both
ovens filled with beef roasts - over
1300 pounds. , On hand were Gerry,
Crooks, Doug Coultes and Bob
Love. Along with Reuben Burnett
they had started up the ovens at
midnight and all night long they
tended the charcoal fires and kept
the cooking:, -Other members
• were busy mpying chairs and tables
into the complex. , ••

spent the night with, Mrs. Suther-
land's daughter Mae, her husband
Farquhar MacDonald and family.
Early' Friday morning they flew
from Malton Airport in Toronto
direct to Edmonton. They expected
to spend Saturday evening and.
Sunday with Miss Joan Ferguson in
Yellow Knife. Joan, daughter of
Lestei. and Audrey Ferguson of the
.sixth of Huron Township, is a staff
nurse in 'the. Yellow Knife Hospital
in the North West Territories.
Incidentally, Joan had just sent her
parents -copies of Yellow Knife
newspapers. In turn they gave
them to Stewart Shiells and then to
the writer so Frances had a brief
look at them.-. Effie and Frances
plan to go all the way to. Inuvik,
near the mouth of the MacKenzie
River, before commencing their
return.

the wedding of Jean MacTavish
and Ian MacDonald.' Jean is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don
MacTavish 'while Ian is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. John MacDonald of
Ripley.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Barnard
returned last week to their Ripley
home after a week's motor trip to
Northern. Ontario. They went by
way of Tobermory, then on the new
ferry to the Manitoulin Island and
then across it into the North Bay
area where they visited with forther
Ripley residents Mr. and Mrs. Jim
McGrae and daughter Debbie, now
living at Callander.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Ford of
Cobourg visited' last week with his
aunt and grandmother, Miss Chris
Robertson and Mrs/ Mary Robert-
son and also with friends Donnie
and Carol Fludder.
Mrs. Donald Campbell of Gait
was in Ripley for a few days last
week visiting with Mrs. Mabel
Breckenridge and relatives.
