Reunion Gathering

On. Sunday.,. June 28th at Paisley
Park On the Elora Road, many, of
the'descendants of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Lawrence Smith McClure
gathered for an, afternoon picnic.
The, occasion was to Celebrate the
50th wedding , anniversary of Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Nelson of Kingston,
Ontario, formerly of Victoria, B.C.
as well as the 40th wedding
anniversary ' of Mr: and.,.Mrs.
Walter' McChire of Paisley. -John
Richard Nelson and Martha M.
McClure were married on the 16th
of June 1926, and Walter Lawrence
McClure married Ila M. Dezall on
1st July '1936, both weddings being
celebrated in Paisley.
All the other brothers and sisters
who are living were- present,
'namely Mrs. Fred Gilchrist (Helen
McClure) of Kinloss Township;
Mrs. Hugh D. McArthur (Mary
McClure) of Toronto; and. Lloyd
McClure of Paisley. Two other
brothers are' deceased, Robert
Isaac in 1896 and Harvey Clarence'
McClure in,1962.
This McClure family has been
well known in the Paisley area for
alrliost a century. , Smith McClure,
who• was born in Esquesing
Township, Halton. County in 1870,
was Reeve of Paisley in 1924, and
also, operated the Balmoral Hotek •
His father Isaac •McClUre, before'
going •to Edmonton, Alberta at the
turn of the century, operated a
grocery in Paisley, and lived in the
house which another grandson,
George Grant (he is the son of the
late Dr. Robert Batten Grant arid
Helen Elizabeth McClure) present-
ly occupies. Mrs. Smith McClure,
nee Mary Jane Lloyd, granddaugh-
ter of two of the early settlers in
Elderslie, Thomas Hembroff and
his wife Mary • Pearce, was very
active in the Bruce Women's
'Institute. Smith'S sons, Walter and
Lloyd, operated the McClure
garage for. several 'years. The
garage and adjoining variety store,
which' is part of the Balmoral Hotel
of yesteryear, are today operated
by. Walter's son-in-law and daugh-
ter, Gary and Mary Ingram. So
there have been 6 generations of
the McClure - Lloyd - Henibroff
families living, in the Paisley -
Elderslie area since the mid 1800s.
Those in attendance at this picnic
were: Mr. and Mrs. Jack Nelson of
Kingston; Mr. and Mrs... Fred
Gilchrist of Lucknow; Mrs. Jack
Gilchrist and son Brian of Toronto;
Mr. arid Mrs. Robert. Gilchrist and
sons Grant, Murray, Dale and'
Danny of Lucknow; Mr. and Mrs:
Walter MeClure and son Rick of
PaiSley; Mr. and Mrs. Gary
Winnington-Ingram and children
Debbie and David of Paisley; Mrs.
Hugh McArthur and her 'friend
Mrs. Beatrice • Robinson, both 'of
Toronto; Mr. • and .Mrs. Lloyd
McClure .' and • son Lawrence of
Paisley; Mr: and Mrs. Gordon
McDonald and family Mary-Helen,
Judy, Karen, Peter and David, of
near Kincardine; Mr. and Mrs. Bob
McClure and family Brad, Rod and
Cheryl of Guelph; aswell as cousin
George Grant of Pafsley.
• Martha ands Jack Nelson were
presented with a'tea service and
flowers. Walter and Ila McClure
were presented with a ruby vase
and an electric blanket. An
anniversary cake was cut by
Martha and Ila, after which' a'
delicious lunch was enjoyed by all;
races and games for, the young-
sters, and many remembrances for
"the oldsters"1•
After the picnic dispersed,
Various Paisley cousins had the
family to their homes. The next
Paisley McClure reunion will be
held in the same place,' with the
sane pee akt and hopefully more,
in 1979. 40

the west coast.
Saturday was a .good day for
Mrs. Nancy MacIntyre's ' auction
sale and the SOuth Kinloss' Church
picnic. .

have moved into the house on the
Orville Elliott farm on the second of
Kiriloss.. •
'Visiting with Mr. and 'Mrs. Leo
Murray and T ,family is Tanya
Kraemer of Toronto. Tanya is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne
Kraemer,. •
Miss Debbie Allan is holidaying
in Western Canada. Debbie is a
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence
Allan.
Mrs. Jack Needham entertained
the W.M.S. group 'from the
Corunna Presbyterian Church.
Corunna is where Jack and Blanche
used to live before moving back to
the Kinloss area.
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Machines •
Jr., Judy, Donna, Scott and Doreen
of Philadelphia visited a, few days
with his uncle, Leonard nd Freda
Machines and sons.
Hugh Machin& visited list
weekend in Delhi with his aunt„ .
Mrs. Dorothy Crozier and .her.
daughter. Mrs. Sandra Miller arid',
family. •
Mr. and Mrs,'Leonard Machines
were dinner guests Sunday with
Mi. and Mrs. Roy Maclnnes, of
Goderich.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ritchie,
DOnald and Mary Ann returned, last
Friday from a four-week motor trip
to the Vest coast. They also visited
with' ,Mrs. Ritchie's brother in
Victoria.
