Beach, WiartOn and Lion's Head;
with • approximately 75 firemen
here. •
The,first part of the evening was
a demonstration 'on 'extinguishing
an oil fire. This was put on by Dan,
Daley, representative• "of C. E.
Hickey and SonS of Hamilton. This
is, the • company where the new
Ripley Fire engine was purchased.
It was a white sudsy substance
which was sprayed rather 'than
plain water: In order lo make the
white foam. - a second substance
made from protein matter must be
drawn into the spray hose. In order
to draw it the Bernoulli' Principle in
'Physics is applied and the fire
engine has to put out the water at
125 pounds pressure. ,
The demonstration was held in #
gravel pit, north of the Ripley
Cemetery, on the farm of Elwyn
Pollock, just' south west' 'of the
village. When the oil was ignited a
huge black cloud rose into the sky.
The containing hole in the pit was
dug by, Jack Scott and Frank Zipfel
of Frank's Garage, alongside the
new Ripley Huron Firehall, sup-
plied/ the barrels of used'oil.
After the demonstration the
firemen went back to 'the firehall
where a regular meeting of the
Bruce:Mutual Fire Aid Association
was held with chairman Dean.
