"Our swine nutiition tests include many formulations
for starting pigs," reports Bob Robson, Assistant
Manager, Shur-Gain Research Farm, "but .we find our
No. 10 Starter remains 'a 'winner for general use. It

ALFALFA WEEVIL
In the past 'week, I have been in
five alfalfa fields that were cut 3-4
weeks ago and show little re-
growth. ,In all cases new growth
had started but had been eaten off
by alfalfa weevil. • Feeding was so
bad in some fields that the old
stems had' no, new 'growth. It was
having to come from the crown.
Even this crown growth .showed
damage.
If your field was slow coming
back in the second cut, it was
probably because . of the 'Weevil..
With the continual feeding on, new
growth, root reserves in the plant
Will be low. To build up these
reserves the second cut should not
be taken until the alfalfa plants are
well into full flower.
The lesson to be learned from
this is that alfalfa is not only. a pest
of first, cut, it can damage the
second cut as well.. Next year you
should chock both. first • cut and
regrowth for weevil damage. The
regrowth should be Checked for at
least two, weeks after cutting and if
there is damage, .spray.
