LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Book On Ashfield
History For
Homecoming
R. R. 3,
Lucknow, Ontario,
August 9, 1976. •
Dear Don,
Last year was the 50th anniver-
sary of the United Church of
Canada. As our 'project the ladies
of Trinity United Church „ Ashfield,
decided to write the history of the
North-East corner of Ashfield
including farnis, churches, schools,
etc, right back to the Crown.
Well, it proved to be a
mountainous task and much more
than we could' hope to complete 'in
1975. We are happy to report that
the last of it has gone to press and
the book "Frontier Ways to,
Modern Days" will soon be made
available to the public.
As was originally planned, we
are holding a Homecoming5un-
• day, as advertised elsewhere hi this
paper. We hope that everyone who
_w_ishes_to_celebiate—with.
come to Brookside School on
August 22. All are welcoine •
whether or not they 'ever were
members of Zion, Blake or Hackett
Communitieg. '
Our book will be a reference book
of facts for future generations, but
also there' are many heartwarming
stories of incidents that happened
in the community over the, years.
Those of us who were, privileged
to work on this book spent many
interesting hours interviewing our
older residents for details of the
past, as well as exchanging reams
of correspondence 'with former
p residents of the area. We • also
spent many an hour' going through
old documents, minute books and
registry 'office files.
We' hope people, will' find the
book informative and intereking,
and will enjoy reading it as much as
we have enjoyed compiling its
contents. • '
Thanks to the Sentinel staff
members for the assistance we
received from them and thanks to
everyone who has helped in any
way.
Sincerely,'
Mayme Wilking,
Committee of History and
Hbmecoming Trinity Ashfield •
United Church.
put him back directing the haying
operations. I volunteered to help
to-day • but they haven't • started
baling - just cutting, turning and
raking, so Paddy gave me time off.
