Speaker KINLOUGH NEWS Mrs. Don. McCosh of Ripley was the guest speaker at the meeting of the Holyrood Women's Institute on Thursday evening at the home of Miss Edna Boyle. She told of a recent trip to Texas. • They, along with several '• other couples in the area made the trip, and she described the country and the feed lots of cattle and many interesting things to' farmers. She also brought articles. and pictures. Mrs. Marion Harris thanked' Mrs. McCosh. and presented her with a gift. Two nevti members were wel- comed as well as the, visitors. The roll call was "What lines in the Mary Stewart Collect impress you the most". The Craft Festival in Lucknow was discussed; also a visit to the Blyth Summer Festival on July 21st. An invitation was extended to join with the Kairshea Institute on July 15th for a bus trip and also to attend their meeting on August 19th. • The District Annual report was given by. Mrs. Lorne Eadie for the morning session and Mrs. P. A. Murray reported on the afternoon. These reports were both full accounts of the day and were very interestingyvith a lot of information for the branch. FolloWing this Mrs. William MacPherson,• delegate from the Holyrood branch, gave a splendid, report on the Officers' Conference at Waterloo, the theme being "Communication". A banner was discussed arid Mrs. Cecil. Sutton described the making of one. Mrs. Raynard Ackert led a sing song: Mrs. Howard Harris gave a 'very well prepared motto on "Plant the-seed of friendship in your home, it will soon bloom in the community. Judges for the cupcake contest were Mrs. Don McCosh and Mrs. Cecil Sutton.. Mrs. Gerald Murray won the first prize and Mrs. Harold Smith won the lucky' prize, being the holder of a Maple Leaf cup as the meeting was on Dominion Day, 0 Canada was sung and the Institute grace, and lunch was served. The August hostess will be Mrs. Raynard Ackert and will be a pOt luck supper, Trousseau .Tea.. :For Wilma Hackett On Saturday, July 3rd, Mrs. Donald 'Hackett of Ashfield Town- ship held 'a tea in honour. of her daughter Wilma's forthcoming Marriage to Greg Blake. Wilma, Mrs. Hackett and Mrs. Blake received the guests. Mrs. Steven Hackett showed Wilma's treusseau during the afternoon and Miss Rosalea Hackett and Miss ., Elva Ritchie during the evening. Miss Donna Hackett showed the wedding gifts. Yellow candles and white daisies centered the tea table. Mrs. W. J. Cumming of Kitchener, grand- mother of the bride and Mrs, W. Dobney of Kincardine, 'grandmoth- er of the groom, poured tea in the afternoon with Barbara Hackett and Sharon Alton serving the guests. Assisting in the tea room during the afternoon were Mrs. Kenneth Alton, Mrs. Barry Hack- ett, • Mrs. Earl Jamieson and Mrs. Chester Hackett. Mrs. Thos. Hackett, Lucknovv, grandmother of the bride and Mrs. Gordon Morrison, R. R. 1 Lucknow, aunt of the groom, poured tea in the evening with Kendra Elphick and Gail Hackett serving the guests. Assisting in the tea room during the evening were Mrs'. Alex Hackett, Mrs. Allan Hackett, Mrs. Kenneth Elphick and Mrs. D. .A. Hackett. Wilma has been honoured with a number of showers prior to her marriage. Mrs. Barry 'Hackett, assisted by Wilma's 'aunts, held a family shower in her home on May. 25th. A swim party, ending with a shower, was held June 3rd at Mrs. L. Blancher's home in London. Mrs: Ken Alton and Mrs. Chester Hackett looked after a community shower held in the Trinity Church basement on June Sth and on June 28th a number of Wilma's girl- friends from her home community and some who are working away from the community travelled to London with' a surprise "pot luck supper" at Wilma's apartment ,and surprised her with a shower of gifts.
