The 4-FI Council is ,inaking history again 'in a lot of Bruce County communities. As you know, 16 Bruce County 4-Hers are going to British Columbia on July 12th as part of a 4-H Exchange. In order' to cut their costs, they have bed knocking on a ,lot of doors to get sponsors. The' response they have been getting is fantastic. Because of the generos- ity of many, many people and businesses, our 4:H memllers will be sponsored by approximately one third of their travelling cost. Thanks to all the wonderful people who made the dreanis of 16 4-H members come 'true. RANDY WILLICK, Extension'Asistant. CHEMICAL WEED CONTROL We have had a lot of calls this spring on failures with chemical weed control, corn that was' too far advanced to spray and damage from chemicals. - - We would like to see farmers adopt a policy of pre-emergence application of Lasso, Bladex, Ekko and Atrazine. These chemicals were all designed to kill germinat- ing weeds 'rather than visible weeds. By doing, this you avoid corn damage • with LassO and Bladex and improve your chances of getting a 'rain 'to move the chemical into the soil. Also you should make a list of the weeds in each field this year to plan next years spray program. Spraying fencerows with brush- kill is a good practice to stop the weeds from spreading back onto the fields. If the fenCerows, are infested with twitch'. grass you should use 'roundup. M. R.
