In the next game, Walkerton will be at Lucknow June 30th. LUCKNOW At a district meeting, held on June 21, Frank Eagleson was elected president of the Bruce ,Brucelea Haven , News intended for earlier. issues April is here with all its budding of spring, and our weather has been very springlike with only the occasional snowy clay. • The daffodils ' and hyacinths in our window boxes give a wealth of colour to our front entrance, and the island is a beautiful sight with all its rich yellow tulips. We had' a special movie,, "The Sting" on . April 1st, and invited our Senior Citizens Club, from down- town. It was shown both afternoon • and evening. Our last movie , until fall, "Lady Without Arms" and "Ichabad Crane" were shown on April 7th. Rev. Eadie from Chesley visited us 'On Monday evening, April 5th and put on a variety program which was 'thoroughly enjoyed, by/ all. Harold Dobie of Tara played the lead guitar and Keith Elder of ,Sullivan played the second one. Roy Siumskie of Chesley played the banjo. Rev. Eadie. sang three solos. - Higher Ground;• Rosie O'Grady, and My Wild Irish Rose. We showed 'movie slides on Tuesday, April 6th 'of bus trips, birthdays and one 60th anniversary that had been 'taken in our auditorium. •Our residents all enjoyed them, as they brought back many pleasant memories. The Beaver Club of Walkerton, under the direction of Mrs. Andy Lamb and leaders, visited us" and put on a lowly program and gave each one of our residents a lovely Easter Bunny which their club made. They also gave out cookies in the shape of a bunny, all nicely decorated. St. Pauls United Church U,C.W: came on April 13th and put on . a musical. program. Mrs. Marion Tait .presided at the piano, and Mrs. Mary Truax . and Mrs. Margaret Kelly sang three duets, "In the Garden"; "Whispering' Hope" and the Polish Easter Carol. Their voices blended , beautifullY and it was a joy to hear them. Mrs. Jean Getz took the scripture ,reading and prayer, and Mrs. Truax led for a sing song including hymns like, Jesus calls us o'er the ,tumult; Break thou the bread of life; Beneath the toss of Jesus and others. Mrs. Veda Knoll gave a reading, "Legend of the,Iris". The last hymn was "Christ the Lord is risen today", and Mrs, Truax and Mrs. Kelly sang the 'choral benediction. then fruit bread and District of the Ontario Public School Men Teachers' Federation. Mr. Eagleson is a Grade 8 teacher at Port Elgin-Saugeen Central School, Port Elgin. Other officers elected are as follows: Harvey MacKay, first vice-president; John- Reynolds, second vice-president; Delton Burkhart, secretary-treasurer; Ken . Grubb, superannuation chairman; John Reynolds, S.C.O.P.E, chair- man; Aimo `Mannineu, insurance chairman; Don Leatham, education studies . chairman; Herb Young, collective bargaining consultant; Bruce piles, public relations chair- 'man. cream and tea. . , The Sacred Heart School from Mildmay, grades 7 and 8 visited us on Thursday, June 13th and put on a lovely variety program. Several girls sang Joy, Joy, Joy and eight of the pupils did a square dance, "Red River. Valley". 'Next was, a play "The Fued" that was very humorous and enjoyed by all. After that a group of girls sang "Put your Hand in the Hand". Next was a pantomine, "No Thanks", and the las,t number was a square dance, "Life on the Ocean ,Wave". The C.W.L. of Walkerton came. and put on euchre with high and low prizes. Mrs. McTeer. and Wm. Hields won the high prizes and Miss Winnifred Wrightson and Mrs. Charlotte Cameron were the low prize winners. The sing along group from Chepstow visited us on May 18th and 'we all enjoyed the folk' musics The elementary school band from fvfildmay Carrick Public School came on May 19th at 2.15 p.m. There were forty young people all dressed alike in Maroon and White. They were under the direction of Mrs. Linda Good. Our residents really enjoyed them immensely and wish to thank Mr: Wayne Swanton, the principal for arranging. it. The Legion' Auxiliary Branch 102 came and put on a lovely bingo. Mr. Harold. Cassidy called the numbers and Mrs. Verna Clancy and her helpers provided a lovely lunch of cookies and juice. We bmitted tab mention in the April news about the Variety Program put on by several girls and directed by Mrs. Betty Janke. Mary Robley, Nicola Crees, Nancy Faulkner and Judy Janke took part. Mrs. Marion Tait accompanied them on the piano and they sang "You are my sunshine" • and "Yankee- Doodle Dandy". They ' put on a skit, "Ziffels" which proved to be very funny and the girls really" took their parts well. The girls sang "Love is Blue" with Judy Janke at the piano. They presented another humorous skit, "Dr. Snake/3e and we all enjoyed it very much. Our ministers for the month were: Rev. W. Becker, Lutheran,,, Mildmay, Rev. Murray Lincoln, Pentecostal, Walkerton, Rev: Mc- Dowell, United, Kincardine, Ron Pierce, United; Walkerton, Salva- tion Army, Hanover. Rev. D. Browne comes each month and has prayer service and also communion service. DONKEY ASEBALL GAME SEE THE , LUCKNOW KINSMEN and THE CKNX TRYHARDS tea were served. • The C.W.L. of Walkerton came on April 22nd and put on a euchre with high and !cry prizes, also lucky number prizes. They served cookies and juice to bring to a conclusion a very nice afternoon. The Ladies Auxiliary Branch 102 of our local legion came on April 22nd and put on a Monster Bingo. They gave '-trays of fruit and kleenex as prizes'. Our monthly .birthday party, sponsored by the Rebekah Lodge of Paisley, was held on Monday,. April 26th at 2.00 p.m. There were 13 residents with birthdays in . April. They had a musical program with a sing song led by Rhoda Grant. sang, "How great thou art", and Millard Metcalfe played again on' his violin. They closed the program with everyone singing, "Blest be the tie that binds". Birthday cake, ice cream and juice were served after each resident with a birthday was presented with a suitable' gift, and we sang, "Happy Birthday". On April 29th the'Underwood W.I. invited us to Bruce Central School for a short program and lunch. Thirty-eight residents went on the bus and four staff members and six' wheelchair reSidents went in two station wagons. We had a most delightful afternoon, and wish to thank Mri. 'John MacKenzie and Lewis Coffman for arranging it. Our ministers for the month were: Rev. Donald Sinclair, Victory Baptist, Hanover; Communion Ser- vice; Walkerton Ministers; Rev. James Dookram, Lutheran, Walk- erton; 'The Gidecms, under the direction of Earl Youngblut; Father Newstead had mass in our chapel on Monday, April 26th at 10.30 a.m. We held our Annual yea and Bazaar on Thursday, May 6 from 2 - 5 p.m. in the afternoon and 7 - 9 p.m. in the evening with many of the resident's work on sale. The success of the 13azaF is- due to the residents interest in crafts and also to Mrs. Helen Stewart, our craft room supervisor. The draws were made 'by many of the auxiliary Members. The Brucelea Haven auxliary, held their tea in the Tuck Shop area. The tea tables looked beautiful and the auxiliary mem- bers served. Our monthly birthday party was sponsored by the Geneva Presby- terian Evening Auxiliary and was held on May 11th at 7 p.m. We \had thirteen residents with birthdays in May. After a lovely program each resident was presented with' a suitable gift and we all sang. "Happy Birthday".
