Ripley C.G.I.T. celebrated its
40th anniversary: It was organized -
in' 1926 in Knox Presbyterian
Church under, the leadership ,.of
Miss Mary Hannah MacKenzie
with a membership of nineteen.
Frank Schinnachd succeeded
Allister Hughes as road superin-
tendent' of KinlosS Township. •
Twenty-six young people from
the three churches, Blakes, Hack-
etts and ZiOrt; that comprised the
Ashfield. United Church Circuit, •
joined the church by proreSsion of
faith. The service was . held at
Blake's Church. 'Rev. G. W. Kaiser
was minister of the Ashfield
charge. •
Village officials received the
resignation of 'Ernes,t Hefferman
who had served as local police
officer for the previous two months.

Jack Kilpatrick disposed of the
west half 'of his main street
premiseS to N. W. Winterstein. It
was 'formerly a Massey-Harris shop
and at. one time was the "old post
office". Mr. Winterstein had the
Hudson car agency, ,
Mrs. A. E. McKim' and Mrs.
Wm. Hornell were presented with
a badge of service by •the Canadian
Red Cross Society in recognition of
their local work.
Dr. D. D. Carpeneto; a medical
doctor in Ripley since 1941, was
establishing a practise in Sarnia.
He was succeeded by Dr. I B.
Tindall. Before going to Ripley Dr.
Carpeneto was associated for a
time with Dr. W. V. Johnston of
Lucknow.
Gordon Barger. of Ashfield
reported seeing a pair of white
swans iri Ashfield, which was a rare
sight. They were spotted, on a
water-filled gravel pit on a grass

Two Armenian, boys, one of them •
a protege of.the Lucknow Women's
Institute, arrived in the'are'a. Both
were making their homes in Huron
Township. •
Browns in Lucknow were adver-
tising a Numode Brassiere in .pink
,brocade for 47C. Mr. Brown stated
that "you'd pay 60c elsewhere for
anything near' this quality". •
Stanley's VarietST Store were
advertising glass wash boards for
75c.
• Price of a new • Ford 4-door
dropped from $895 to $755. A'truck
could be purchased for .$485 but if
you wanted a starter in it; you had
to •pay $85 extra.
