Showers Held For
Donna Ritchie.

.elect: and daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

was feted at three' showers.
A, community: shower ,was . held
Saturday, May 1Sth at Trinity
United Church. Mrs. Frank Ritchie•
chaired the program whichinclud-
ed instrumentals by Joan and Lori
Hackett, contests by ° Mrs. John
Hunter and Mrs. Bob Irwin, a
humorous sililoquy given by Mrs.
Gordon Kirkland, and an address
° to the bride read by, Mrs. Jim
Hunter. Donna received many
miscellaneous gifts and thanked
the ladies present. The girls' that
assisted her in opening the gifts
were Elva Ritchie, Mrs: Jack
Miller, Nancy Kirkland and, Mrs.
Peter Kiel. A social hour and lunch
followed.
A relative shower was held ' the
following Monday afternoon at the
home of Mrs. Jean Papernick in
Goderich. A luncheon was served
and a sociable time was enjoyed by
all. Donna was given a gift of
money and other presents. She
then repliedtothose. attending.
Another shower was held at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Wilson
in Waterloo. •Itt : attendance were
former university classmates and
friends.. Donna was given a set of
co-ordinated bathroom towels.
Everyone enjoyed the afternoon
and barbecue.,
Donna, whose marriage to Gary
Thompson will take place in July in
Red Deer, Alberta, was recently
home .for a visit in May.

Lions Stage Successful Variety Night
,tOn Saturday, Male Beavty Contest.
The Lucknow pistrict Lions Club
staged a variety concert in Lucknow
arena .on ,Saturday evening which
was well attended and "provided an
excellent showfor a nominal $1.00
charge. .
•
Bob Finlay acted as master of
ceremonies for the event and
judging of the acts was done by
Mrs. Donalda Scott, Miss 'Helen
Thompson and . Cyril Brown.
Clarence Greer was incharge of the
speaking system..
The program , was provided by.
area Lions Clubs, Lucknow Lions
Club and the Lucknow Leo Club.
Those participating included:
Steve Pritchard, vocalist, accom-
panied by his . 'mother Anne
Pritchard on piano and sponsored
by Lucknow and District Leo Club.
Don Kuntz on unicycle and stilts,
sponsored 'by the Paradise Lions

winners: first, Betty Ann Leahy of
Teeswater; second, : the Scotch -
Dancers and Piper from Goderich;
third, the members of the Lucknow
Public School Band.
A number of the more shapely
and well proportioned Lions Club
members entered in a beauty
contest.. •
Bobbie .Jo (Bob) Struthers was
reported to be well, ahead of all
other entries in the judging and;
carried off ' top. prize. Others
entered were Roberta (Bob) Mcln-
tosh, a carry over from .the. contest
of a few years ago, .who keeps
gamely trying, but just doesn't
seem to.have 'what it takes; Helena`
(Harold) Nicholson who had earlier
won the Havelock Street contest
but didn't stack up in the finals;
Geraldine . (Gerry) Priestap who
placed well up on the list but was
disqualified because of the grass
stains on his knees, encountered
when planting the garden this past:
week; Willetts (Walter) Arnold,
wholost out because of his walk
which the judges described as
being like that of a chicken.
Other entries were some out of
town gals who had thejudges on
the edge of their seats:They were
Bernice (Bernie) Toulon of. Ripley
and Paula (Paul) Locker of Walker-
ton, Miss Dew Drop who wore the
latest style in water wear for
visiting the. Amazon tropical rain
forest during the monsoon season.
The hat was suitable for protecting
the contestant from coconut throw-
ing monkeys.
