Former Ashfield
Man Died At 53
A. R. ARCHIE PHILLIPS
The death of A. IL Archie
Phillips of ' 1298 Fulier Street,
London occurred at Victoria Hosp-
ital on Thursday, May 20th in his
54th year.
He was born on the 9th
concession of Ashfield. Township, a
son of Mrs.. Elmer Phillips and the
late Mr. Phillips. He lived in
Ashfield until enlisting in the,
Canadian Army in 1939. Following
' his discharge he went to Harriston
and seven years ago moved to
London.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his
wife, the former. Jean Powell, a son
and daughter, Stephen and Susan,
both at home, his mother, Mrs.
Leta Phillips of Kitchener; , one
brother, James Phillips 'of Kitchen-
er and two sisters, Mrs. Elno
(Francis) Warnos of Pontiac, Mich • -
igan and Mrs. W. (Beth) Peaver of
Brantford.
_ The funeral and committal
service 'was held at the Needham
Memorial Chapel, London; on
Monday, May 24th. Rev. Thomas
A. A. Duke officiated. Interment
was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
A Legion service under Harriston
Legion Branch No. 296 was held on
the Sunday evening at the funeral
home.

Council held its regular monthly
meeting on Tuesday evening, June,
lst, at the Public Works Garage.
All members were in attendance,
with Reeve Lyons presiding.
The Minutes of the May meeting
were read and adopted , on motion
of Councillors Hickey and Foran.
approval for a plan to install lights
in the Dungannon Agricultural
Park for ball games, etc. Motion by
councillors Foran and -Struthers
"That West Wawanosh Township
Council grant approval to the West
Wawanosh Recreation and Parks
Committee to, proceed. to take the
necessary 'steps for financing the
installation of, lights foi night
activities in the Dungannon Agri-
cultural Park, which includes an
application for a VVintario Grant".
Albert Plasschaert asked council
about a culvert across his lineway.
/Council advised Mr. Plasschaert to
take no, definite ,steps tb install .a
culvert at' this point until the report
on the Smyth Drain is received.
On a motion by Councillors
Hickey and Stothers it was agreed
to buy part of lot 13, concession 2
from Delmar Sproul for the price of
$100.00.
On a motion by Councillors
Hickey and Foran, the clerk was
directed to advertise for tenders,
for the construction of the Milligan
Drainage Works, in the Lonon
Free. Press for. one' week.

cil to repair and improve an
existing drain in the village which
is not working properly, and is,
therefore, causing a water problem
during rains and thaws. The clerk
' was instructed to : search for 'the
original plan of the drain, so that
the work could be carried out and
charged assessed as the engineer,'
originally directed. •
Alvin Sherwood appeared before
Council 'and-presented a .proposal
- for his farmland, adjacent 'to
Dungannon, to be incorporated into.
the Secondary Plan for West
