On a recent Saturday, • 'an
interested taxpayer sponsered the
Ripley Boy Scouts; with leader
Brio Dewar in charge, to do a
thorough clean up of waste papers,
plastic's, cardboard and other
debris lining the road fence and the
front part Of the garbage 'dump on
the sixth concession west in Huron
Township. Brian and the Scouts
did a,good job and for the, time
being it looks clean and neat. How
long it remains this way now
depends on the public,

On Tuesday and Wednesday of
last week Mrs. Adeline Hackett of
Ripley, as member of the Ripley
Horticultural Society,' weeded and
cultivated the flower plot in .Gore
Park at Ripley's main corner., On
Thursday evening she planted the
militia] flowers and since that she
has been watering them. This
'flower plot is one of several
maintained in the village by the
'society.,

The flowers placed in St. Paul's
Anglican Church in Ripley on
Sunday were in memory of the late,
Sam Colwell and were placed there
by his wife, Mrs. Gwen Colwell.

in Ripley, the annual anniversary
services will be held next Sunday.
Rev. Bervie Warner of Beirack
Retreat will be. the' special preach-
er. In the evening the Harbourair-
es of the Goderich area will present
a song service.
Local representative of the
Canadian Arthritis and Rheuma-
tism Society, Mrs. Lloyd Irwin of
Ripley, received a letter of thanks
for respense to the recent drive and
Mrs. Margaret Blue, also of Ripley,
passed it on to us for her
sister-in-law. Talent from this area
taking part in ' the television
program by providing a duet and a'
musical number were Mrs. Marion
MacTavish, Mrs. Bertha Scott and
Bob Courtney of Pine River and his
sister Mrs. ,Gerry MacLeod of
Kincardine. About $15,000 was
raised on the telethon.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Scott of
Ripley visited in Prince Albert,
Saskatchewan, for Mr. and Mrs,
Norval Bell's 35th wedding anni-
versary.

Mrs. Gladys Merner spent a few
days with her sister. Annie Scott. in
Ripley and with Grace 'Eckenswil-
ler.
Mr. and Mrs. Don McCosh left
for Texas last Saturday morning..

present undergoing treatment in

On Tuesday evening of last week
a group of St. Andrew's Church'
ladies held a pot, luck supper
meeting at the home of Miss Chris
Robertson and her mother, Mrs.
Mary Robertson. •

Last Wednesday, June 2, Mr.
and Mrs. Oliver MacCharles of the
Lochalsh area attended the annual
spring meeting of District 10 of the
Ontario Agricultural. Societies. The
meeting was held in Feversham

and the new District Director for
Bruce and Grey Counties, Mr.
Revis MacKay of Lovat,. was in
charge. All the officials and friends
were glad to welcome Mrs. Marion
McCharles back after her recent
serious illness in. Victoria, Hospital
in London. There were 171
delegates at the meeting represent-
ing 24 of the 26 societies in District
1,0. On behalf of the Ripley
Agricultural Society 'Marion and
Oliver brought back the. 1976 fall
fair calendars for Ripley which was
much appreciated.

The annual installation Of the
officers of the Ripley Legion
Auxiliary for the next two years
was held last Thursday evening in
the Ripley Huron. Legion hall.
Preceding the meeting a pot luck
supper was held. The new -
president is Mrs. Barbara Paquette
of the fourth, concession in Huron
Township, succeeding Mrs. Nadine.
Danforth of Point Clark. Mrs: Sally
(Harvey) Pollock of Ripley is the
first vice president with Mrs.
Beattie. Collins as second vice
president.
The treasurer Is Mrs. Lois
(Clarence) Pollock of Ripley. The
new secretary is Mrs. -Marion
Lackie of the fourth Concession.
The installation ceremony was
conducted by Mrs. Eileen Enner-
ton. 'There was a good attendance
at the meeting.

the report of their second meeting
of the year held in May. Bryan.

meeting ended with lunch.

The family scattered widely;
some going to the Dakotas,, others
to the Canadian West. Jane Ann
became Mrs. Thomas - Wilson,
mother of Mrs. James M. Farrell,
formerly of concession six in Huron
Township and Thomas J. remained
in this area.
Thorrias , J. and his wife, /the
former Jane Agnes Kirkpatrick,
took up residence on the home farm
in 1901: 'Here a family •of four, was
raised. They were the late Harold .
K. Thompson, Ethel (Mrs. Howard
McGee of Flesherton), Merle (Mrs.
Robert Sheaver of London), and W.
Elmer Thompson of Kincardine:
Thomas Thompson died in
December, 1947 and Mrs. Thomp-
son passed; away . in November
1955. Their son Harold K.
Thompson, continued to live on the
farm until he went, to Kincardine
General Hospital in January 1976.
Following his death the farm was.
sold. '
After 121 years in the Thompson
family, the property has a new
owner. , By a strange turn of fate,
the purchaser, Ronald Farrell of
Walkerton and formerly of Pine
River, through his paternal, grand-
mother, Mrs. James Farrell of
,Kiricardine, is a great, great
grandson of Thomas Thompson.
the original settler.

Ripley visited with their daughter
and family, Mr. and Mrs. John „
Bierns of Stratford, over the
weekend.

the Lake Shore to the 8th
concession'of Huron Township. He
turned east on concession 8 and
arrived at 'his newly acquired
home, lot 29, 'which he had
purchased frOm the' Crown,,
Aftertfie log house was built, he
returned to Flesherton for the
family - his wife, the former Jane
Huston, and aildren Elizabeth,
Isabelle, 'Jane Ann and Gordon.
Seven more children were born in
