In recognition of endeavours and contributions to the advancement of Sports and Physical Education in North America, David Lough'eed,' a student at Conestoga College, and Minor Hockey Coach, has been selected to study in the Soviet Union. David is a son .of Mr. 'and Mrs-Carl Whitcroft of Lucknow and .attended school here. He, along with other Of Canada?s leading physical educators . and coaches, departed for Moscow on May 23rd for an intensified' study period at the world famous Soviet Federal Institute of Sport and Physical EduCation. A single car accident ' early Sunday morning, on the southern outskirts of Lucknow, claimed the life of a .Lucknow young man,, Gordon Black, age 19, son of Mrs. Margaret" Black of . Lucknow. He was a passenger in a late model Corvette owned and driven by John Emberlin, age 23, of Lucknow. The car was proceeding south on Ross Street in Lucknow, the Lucknow to Dungannon 'road, and at the 'edge of town, opposite the -residence of Mr. and Mrs. Harold . Edgar, it went out of control and struck.a tree on the east side of the highway. No other car was 'involved. Both young men ,were taken 'by ambulance to Wingham and Dist; Wednesday of last week marked historic occasion in the_life of_ Kinlough Pentecostal Church when the sod was turned for a new $60,000 church building'. Following a six weeks Junior Farmer' Travelling Scholarship in the United Kingdom, Bryan will be employed as Assistant Agricultural Representative with . the Ontario. Gordie ; as he was known to most of his friends, was employed at the McTavish Fina Service Station at ' the, time of his death, and throUgh this association, was widely known and liked by the adult poPulation of , the community, Tag well as his many youthful, friends. Adrian 'VanRooyen was chairman for the program that was enjoyed by' a capacity audience. The program , included choir numbers by the/Joyful Voices, the Lucknow United Church Choir and the Childrens' Choir from the 'South KinlosS Presbyterian Church. A trumpet, trio was performed by three members of the Lucknow and District Public School Band, Paul Finlay, Colin Cameron and Steven Atkinson.
