John Ackert, 'son of Mr. and
Mrs. Lloyd Ackert of Holyrood,
graduated on May. 28 from the
University of Guelph with a• degree
of Bachelor of Science in Agricul-
ture, majoring in Animal Science.
In recognition of endeavours and
contributions to the advancement
of Sports and Physical Education in
North America, David Lough'eed,' a
student at Conestoga College, and
Minor Hockey Coach, has been
selected to study in the Soviet
Union. David is a son .of Mr. 'and
Mrs-Carl Whitcroft of Lucknow
and .attended school here.
He, along with other Of Canada?s
leading physical educators . and
coaches, departed for Moscow on
May 23rd for an intensified' study
period at the world famous Soviet
Federal Institute of Sport and
Physical EduCation. The course,
which represents a first for

Second Round Draft
Dave. Parrish,- defenceman with
Sudbury Wolves in the 0.1-LA.
Junior A league, and a highly rated
player in profeSsional circles, was 'a
second round draft choice of New
York Rangers in the recent National Hockey League draft.
Dave, who played minor hockey
in Lucknow, is the son of Mr. and
Mts. Duncan Fattish of Lochalsh.
A single car accident ' early
Sunday morning, on the southern
outskirts of Lucknow, claimed the
life of a .Lucknow young man,,
Gordon Black, age 19, son of Mrs.
Margaret" Black of . Lucknow.
He was a passenger in a late
model Corvette owned and driven
by John Emberlin, age 23, of
Lucknow.
The car was proceeding south on
Ross Street in Lucknow, the
Lucknow to Dungannon 'road, and
at the 'edge of town, opposite the
-residence of Mr. and Mrs. Harold
. Edgar, it went out of control and
struck.a tree on the east side of the
highway. No other car was
'involved.
Both young men ,were taken 'by
ambulance to Wingham and Dist;
Wednesday of last week marked
historic occasion in the_life of_
Kinlough Pentecostal Church when
the sod was turned for a new
$60,000 church building'.
Property for the new .church is
located 'on James Street, east of the
county road, where 12 lots. were
. purchased from Bert Nicholson.
Pastor of the congregation for
the' ,.past three years has been
Gilbert Van Sligienhorst. Contract-
, or for the church is Bob Foreman of
Walkerton who 'has already Started
Work. excavating was done . last
Thursday' with cement work slated
for the first of this week.
Completion date has been set for
early, September.

Township have been set with 'the
township rates remaining about the
same. A considerable decrease
was shown in the county rate with
the school rates showing sizeable
increases.

John Emberlin was treated at
Wingham and District Hospital and
moved to Victoria Hospital in
London on Sunday. ' He suffered
severely from concussion, a broken
jaw, collar' bone, shoulder and an
injured arm and elbow. He showed
some improvement on Monday.
John is, employed at Douglas Point
and resides with his wife Debbie in
an apaitment above the H , and B

of Mr.-and Mrs. Fred Emberlin of
Lucknow.

Farmer' Travelling Scholarship in
the United Kingdom, Bryan will be
employed as Assistant Agricultural
Representative with . the Ontario.

Prior to. the family moving
Lucknow, :vvhere they reside on
Hamilton Street, they had lived at
St. Helens for several years.
Gordie ; as he was known to most
of his friends, was employed at the
McTavish Fina Service Station at '
the, time of his death, and throUgh
this association, was widely known
and liked by the adult poPulation of ,
the community, Tag well as his
many youthful, friends.
His' friendly, offhand manner
with people made him a friend to

Sunday Evening
Sacred Music
An evening of sacred Music was
held on Sunday evening, May 30 in
the Lucknow Christian geformed
Church. Adrian 'VanRooyen was
chairman for the program that was
enjoyed by' a capacity audience.
The program , included choir
numbers by the/Joyful Voices, the
Lucknow United Church Choir and
the Childrens' Choir from the
'South KinlosS Presbyterian
Church. A trumpet, trio was
performed by three members of the
Lucknow and District Public School
Band, Paul Finlay, Colin Cameron
and Steven Atkinson.
