This is a great pleasure forme. I
had become resigned to the fact
that instead of renewing 'my.
Sentinel I would have to discontin-
ue •it. I had 2, strokes about 2 years
ago and was, retired from the St.'
Lawrence Seaway Authority on
pension. I. only', had 30 years
service and it seemed we were
going to ` have to 'cut corners
wherever possible.
But my Wife knew hoW much I
looked forward to the Sentinel
coming every week' and how often I
commented on your thorough
coverage every. week of all activit-
ies in and around Lucknow. I have
often said I think I could go from
home to home and know. who 1
Would meet , there: , This is
somewhat of an exaggeration after
having been away from there
almost forty years, only' visiting
when we could make, it up there
about 3 times a year and the people
I would meet were children when I
left there. Many times the family
resemblance would distinguish
them.
However, I am very thankful that
I can get around _and ' have. 3
squares a day and now, with the
spring weather, I can sit out and
chat with 'the occasional passerby
and wave to the people that I know
in their car. •

In a. letter tolion. Eugene
Whelan, Minister of Agriculture,
Lorne • Luther, N.V.U. Director of
District 5, outlined recommenda-'
tions which Members feel vital for a.
satisfactory dairy industry. Copies
of the letter were sent to John
Wise, M.P.; Robt. McKinley,
I M.P.; Ed Broadbent, Leader of
%D.P. and Jos. Clark, Leader of
the Opposition.
Recornmendations by District 5
were that (1) the. Canadian Dairy
Commission become sole market-'
ing authority for dairy products; (2)
that the C.D.C. be given the
powers to, regulate imports and
exports; (3) that there be one pool,
one price for milk; (4) that quotas
have no monetary value; (5) that
supply manageMent keep produc-
tion in line with demand; (6) that
producers " receive 'a ; cost of
production.
John Wise, who is P.C. dairy
critic, in his reply 'to Mr. Luther,
sent the following information -
70% of all farmers reported as
commercial in the Province of
Quebec are dairy farmers, 30% for
Ontario, and 22% in Canada are
registered as dairy farmers. Value
of the total milk production is close
to one billion dollars.
very million pounds of cheese

loss of $360.r000. to Canadian milk
producers.
Importation of cheese has°
,risen drastically from 31 million
pounds in 1970 to SO Million pounds
in 1975. If cheese imports could be'
reduced from the present 50'million
pounds to 40 milliOn pounds, skim•
milk production could be reduced
by approximately 9 million pounds,
This' would represent a savings
