Recently Orrie Vail passed away
in Tobertnofy and his funeral, was
held there' on May 17/.1 In the
, nearby, waters of Georgian Bay, he
discovered in 1902, the remains of
the ship Griffion, built by La Salle.'
It had made its first trip to Green
Bay and was on its way back with a
load 'of furs when it disappeared.
For the past 20 years the late Mr.
Vail 'had the remains on display at
his place in Tobermory. .Of local
interest is the fact that Orrie Vail,
was, a cousin of the late Mrs.
Evelena (Charles) Wyld of Ripley.
