Holyrood Institute
The Holyrood Women's Institute'
met on Thursday afternoon at the
hall with Mrs. Alex Percy preSiding
in •the absence of the president,
Mrs. WirliarnMacKersori who was
attending the Officer's Conference
at Waterloo. The meeting opened
with the Ode and Mary Stewart
Collect.
The secretary, Mrs. Jack Scott,
read the minutes and gave the
financial statement. The roll call
was "Name a Canadiari woman
who left her footprint on the sands•
of time and if pbssible tell,
something about $her". The
District' Annual meeting •will be'
held at Whitechurch. on May. 18th
and on May 25th and an invitation
Was received from the Wingham •
branch to attend their meeting on
May 25th at p.in. 'when they will
have Mrs. Gwen fawthrop as their'
guest.
• There was also an invitation from
the Armow branch to- attend their
tea on June. 1st. ,
A discussion was held, and a
decision left until later, to decide
on the Dominion Choir coming to
the area.
A few improvements are to be
added, to the hall.' - Mrs. Raynard
Ackert reported on the guest
speakers for the June meeting..
Mrs. Lorne Eadie was 'program
convener and gave a splendid topic
on, "Citizenship'begins at horne, •
the hand that rocks the cradle rules
the world" and 'the motto, "How
Canadian women obtained the
franchise", speaking on the life of
Nellie, McClung.
Readings in keeping with Moth-
er's Day were given by. Mrs. Frank.
Maulden. Mrs. Raynard • Ackert
conducted a novelty musical num-
ber with everyone taking part. A
test "Know your. Canada" was
ry interesing. Mrs.. Lorne Eadie
thanked everyone. The meeting
closed with 0 Canada and Grace.

Social time was enjoyed.

• Bruce Couniy. Farmstead Im-
provement Contest Committee held
:their meeting recently in Paisley
Central School with almost perfect
attendance. •
A tentative .prize list' has been
decided upon and is as follows:
Prizes in each township are -
First prize for class 1; Farmstead to
Iv Improved, is, $75. plus a seed
corn voucher; second- prize, $75;
third prize 560.
First prize for class 2, Rural.
Home to be Improved, is $60;
sec* prize $50; third prize $40.
First prize for class 3, farmstead
Already Improved, is $50; second
prize $40; -third prize $30.
\First prize 'for class 4, Rural
Home Already Improved, is. $40;*
second, prize $30; third prize $25.
Gateway Entrance, class 5,, first
prize. $30; second • prize $25.
Top township prizes will compete
for a County prize in each of five
classes. •A silver tea service is' to be
presented for each of the County
prizes in classes 1., 2, 3, and 4. A
silver, rose bowl is to be presented
as County prize in the Gateway •
class. • -
To qualify, for a prize some
improvement must be shown in
classes .l ..and 2. Final judging will
be done in July/. .
Priies will .be announced' and
presented at the Award Banquet
held in Ripley Coniplex on Septern-
ber-8. •
The design of commemorative
plaques was chosen. All entries
will receive a Complementary meal
arid plaque as a memento of the
contest.
