MacKenzie. of Ripley, is the captain-
of the Markham Bantam Girls'
Etiwling team. Earlier in the
:spring her team won .the regional
championship over a, Scarborough-
, team in Toronto. PlaYipg again in
Toronto they won the Ontario
' Chainpionship. The all Canadian
championship , series was recently
played in Regina. Here the
Markham girls playing against the
other provincial winners won,15 of
their 18 games and the Canadian
Championship. The girls set a new
record in winning the fifteen games
- the most to date. The girls, . accompanied hy then' parents and
team officials, flew from Toronto 'to
Regina and, return. Lorne Mae-
, ;Kenzie, a 'graduate of Ripley Public
and District High School, ,will be
remembered as an outstanding
Pitcher with the Stratford Senior
ball team while, he was on the staff
of ,the Stratford' TeacherS' College
there. Congratulations of Ripley,
folks go to Susan and the members
of.their team in winning the
championship and setting 'a new
Canadian record.

Mrs. lxvvin Hulse often visited in
Ripley With her sister, the late Mrs,

Village foreman Donnie Peter-
baugh spent several days last week
cutting the grass and getting Gore
Park in 'shape' for the summer.
Picnic tables and garbage 'disposal
barrels were taken from winter
storage and put in the park, and
with the playground equipment on
the site, the park is already being'
used.

Another sign that the spring
seeding season is right here, are
those two Cylindrical tank, cars
filled_ with ammonia solution fertil-
izer. They were spotted on the
railway siding near 'the Ripley
chopping mill by a C.N. train this
past week.

Ripley drover Leonard Courtney
of the Amberley area again
received mention in last Saturday's
radio report of the 'week's sale of,
beef cattle at the Ontario. Livestock
Yards in Toronto. Leonard shipped
a pair' of steers owned by Perrin
Lowry of Lurgan bringing a top
price. Kincardine drover Burton
Shewfelt also received mention.

'College is .Murray Huber with his
parents; Mr.. and Mrs. Jerry Huber
and family' in Ripley: Murray has
been enrolled in Fanihawe College
in London during the past two
years.

The. Ripley and District Lions
Club held their dinner meeting in
the St. Andrew's United Church'
basement hall last Wednesday
evening. The ladies of the church
prepared and served the dinner.

People in the Ripley area 'are
glad to , learn that Mrs. Marion
McCharles recently returned hoine
and wish her the best. It is a long
time since she entered Victoria
Hospital in London on .March 17.

Well, here it is Monday morning,
May 3 and the grass, in Gore Park,
which was So green yesterday, is
covered with a layer of white show.
During the early hours 'it snowed
even the birds in the backyard are
looking for. food and shelter.

Marjorie Reid of Ripley 'are visiting
this week in Washington City with
their cousin Mrs. Doris Pullen.

A surprise birthday party for
Mrs., Violet MacKenzie of Ripley
was held last Saturday afternoon at
the home of her daughter-inzlaw .
Mrs. Cheryl (Dave) MacKenzie in
Kincardine. About 25 ladies
attended and presented Mrs.
MacKenzie with gifts. The biggest
surprise for Mrs. MacKenzie was
when her three other daughters-
in-law walked into the party - 3oyce
from Peterborough, Marion from
Unionville and Helen from Listow-
el.
