PUBLIC SCHOOL Thursday, April 29 at 8:15 Brucelea Haven Activities Our ministers for the. -month of March were: Rev. Ed Martin, Pentecostal, Hanover; Rev. D.- Kemble, Presbyterian, Walkerton; Rev. H. Stevenson, United, Ches- ley; The Salvation Army, Capt. Crews, Hanover. Father Newstead had Mass in'our chapel on Monday, March 15th at 10.30 a.m. Rev. Donavon Browne had Anglican Prayer service in our chapel on • Tuesday; March 16th, and com- munion service March 23rd at 1030 a.m. The first Tuesday of the month the Gideons had prayer service at 7.00 p.m. in our -auditorium and the third Friday . . afternoon at •2.00 p.m. a musical service. Tuesday, March 2nd, 'we had a monster bingo in our tuck shop ,:area with a large attendinec and many of our residents were hicky enough to, win two prizes.'Ott March 3rd we had crokinOle, Solo and euchre, with high and ,low prizes for each. We also had six lucky chair priies. The World's Day of Prayer Service was held in our auditorium, on March 5th at 1.30 p.m. We had a very large, attendance, and wish to thank Mrs. Harry Hassfield who was the convener. We had two movies in March, one on Match 10th and the other on March 24th. They were lovely movies, and our residents really enjoyed them.. The C.W.L,. of Walkerton came on March-. 16th and had their monthly euchre. Mrs, L. Weiss and her helpers served a delicious lunch after the "euchre was over. We entertained the Walkerton Senior. Citizens club on Wednes- day, 'March 17th, tp a St. PatricI5's euchre and solo. The euchre prizes were, as follows: high lady and high man, Mrs. Herb Ernest and Oscar Sparrow; low prizes, Miss' Schrum and Miss 'Mackenzie; the- high in solo was Herb. McWhinney and second high Martin Kirstine, The Malcolm Women's Institute entertained ourresidents on Thurs- day, March 18th. 'Mr. John .Prues played two lovely pieces, on .the electric organ, and Williard Toman two mouth organ selections. They had a sing a long with Beth Findlay, at the piano. Mr. Otto Prues sang How great Thou Art which was the last number on the program. Then they gave gifts to each ,of our residents and served cake, ice cream and juice,- to bring to a close a most enjoyable afternoon. The Ladies Auxiliary Branch 102 came-on March 23rd and had their monthly bingo. They gave. lovely trays 'of .fruit as prizes. A bus load of -United Church Women from Port Elgin came on Friday, Mardli-26th, and put on our monthly birthday party. The welcome and introductions were very capably, given by Mrs. Grace Reany. Then Lorna Caley, LANGSIDE Carl Dore who has joined the Canadian Air Force travelled by train from London to Cornwall, Nova Scotia, 'to begin training. Mr. and Mrs. .Donald Young, Kevin and Brian of Toronto spent the weekend with his parents Mt. and Mrs. Clifford Young. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Young, Marty, Jamie, Karen and Liane visited at' the same home. • Mr. and Mrs. George Young, Heather, Bradley and • Cheryl of Wingham; Mr.' and Mrs. Bob Young, Beth and Jane of Chesley and Mrs. Eugene Gardner, Sandra, .Greg and Shelley Of Lucknow visited on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Young and celebrated Heather Young's ninth birthday. Communion services were held at Langside Presbyterian Church on 'Sunday with Rev. Mr.. Noble of Lucknow officiating. The Langside . Whitechurch Young Peoples held their regular meeting at Langside Church, on Sunday evening. OLIVET Mr. and Mrs. Robert 'Osborne and family attended the wedding .on Saturday of Mr. Larry •Firmin and Miss Jean McCallum of Toronto in the Grace United church, Hanover. Kevin Osborne was ringb'earer and Kendra' Pen- nington of Teeswater was flower- girl. The happy couple will make their home in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Moore and boy's of Ripley visited on 'Sunday with Mr, and Mrs, Osear White, Several neighbours and friends 'were invited to a tupperware party last Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Peter. Van Sickle. . Visiting on the weekend-with Mr. and MrS. Walter Black and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack McGuire and family yvere Mrs. Robert Engel, Marilyn and Robbie of Dublin. Recent visitors with. Mr. and Mrs. Robert 00:sorrie and family were Mr. and Mrs. John McCallum of North Vancbuver. accomPanied by 'Ruth McKenzie, 'on the piano, had a sing'song. Next on the prograni was a violin duet by Mrs. Mel Black and Irving Grieves, then a duet by Joanne Boyd. and Bill *Reany, Clark White amused us with his dancing puppet, with Mrs, Reta Bell at the piano. Mrs.• Mildred Upshall favoured us with a • mouth organ solo, and Sandra and Susan sang and danced. The ladies gave each of our birthday residents a gift and we all sang Happy Birthday. Then they served Cake and ice cream to round out a most enjoyable afternoon. On Tuesday, March 30th, we had the Rockway Gardens Senior Citiz- en's Glee Club come by bus from Kitchener. There were 32 men and women took part. The choir sang beautifully, and looked so lovely all dressed the same in long black skirts. and white blouses- with red ties, while the men had black trousers, white shirts and large black velvet bow ties. They sang lovely old songs like "Sweet Molly Malone"; "I'm Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover"; "God of Our. Fathers"; "Just Let a Smile Be Your Umbrella"; "Margie" and ° others. The conductor was Eldon Becker. Howard Snyder -played on the musical saw and' auto harp. Mts. Issler played two beautiful pieces on her accordian, and Mrs. Keyes, Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Maches- ney and Mrs. Brubacker sang "Deep Apple Pie". The final number by the • choir was "God Bless our Canada": We served them , sandwiches, cookies and tea before they left for home. We opened with' the 4-H pledge. / Teresa' Murray read the• minutes of the last meeting. Roll call, was taken, A fruit dessert my family enjoys". Mrs. Ritchie discussed garnishes and accompaniments - fruit' and cheese trays; and° fruit arrangements. Mrs.. Machayre talked about fruit specialities and fondues. • We had a fruit fondue to dose the meeting.. Cherry Blossoms • The Holyrood 4-H Club held their final meeting at the home of Mrs. Hank Duiker on Friday, April 23rd at 4.30 p.m., 'All members present answered the roll call naming "their family's favourite fruit dessert" .During .During the , business period discussion about the exhibit .for Achievement Day continued. A work meeting is' planned for Monday at 7.00 p.m. to complete plans for the exhibit. The interesting activity for this meeting was a demonstration of a fruit and cheese plate, with varied pieces of fruits, nuts and • cheese, to be dipped in carmel fondue sauce: The meeting closed with the motto. Seven Members answered the roll • call, "One place to use French knots". Susan, Irvin read the minutes of the last meeting. The ' next meeting will be May 4 at•Mts..- - Hackett's at 7 p.m. The home assignments were taken up. Ideas for the skit for achievement day were discussed and Beverly Wilkins,' Susan Irvin and Joan Hackett were nominated • to write the skit. Mrs. -Hackett discussed uses for the French kno • and how to assemble the Frt Choice article; ako , suggest finishes for the Free Choke arti. Mrs. Hackett demoustrated to do appliques and eadi girl did 'a sample of applique futgroup work.
