humour, determination and hope.
We are a mixed:community, all
living and working together in
friendship, and harmony. In times
like these, everyone suffers. We
yearn and pray for peace.
If you were , with me now;
though, you wouldn't believe there
was trouble anywhere. Grass is
green as it always is, winter arid
summer. Our garden is full of
crocuses, snowdrops, polyanthus
and daffodils in full bloom.
Because I,'can't bear to cut them,
we even have some roses blooming
still from last year. Hedges are in
full new leaf, trees in blossom, and
birds wake me early every morning
with their incredible dawn chorus..
There is beauty everywhere.
If you are considering a trip `to
Ulster, don'tlet fear,of trouble here
dissuade you. Searching for a
dangerous incident would be like
searching fora bank robbery, irery
hard to find. We had as our guests
old friends, Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Back, Box 22,' Coronach, Saskatch-•
ewan,Canada, who arrived with us
rather nervously btit had what they
still say was the most wonderful
holiday ,of their whole lives in this
green beautiful country among
kind' gentle generous people.
Anyone coming to Dungannon, Co.
Tyrone; 'can be assured of a happy /
reception they will never forget. If
you come to our town; • you'll. be
both safe and very, very welcome.
My thanks to you, Mr. Editor., for
your kindness and co-operation in

Editor, ,11Cifilf)W Sentinel, I send
you news of Dungannon, Co.
Tyrone, Northern Ireland, and '
greetings from everyone' here. I'm
grateful for this chance to write a
group letter as life is often frantic
for me,' with many urgent jobs' to
do. I still produce a regular column
for our local paper and have been
offered an occasional spot in a
Belfast daily, the largest neWspap-
et.' in our Province. 'So 'much
writing has led to many invitations
to speak 'at meetings over a very
wide area and I accept each
opportunity to, bring reconciliation
and friendship to our • people
everywhere. This month I am also
• to do a recording for the B.B.C.
ready for an April broadcast and
although I am. slightly nervous
about it, I leek forward to this
opportunity, too. With my •home,

can understand why I don't always
have as much time for letter writing

I'm now writing a book under• the

February, 1974, an 800 lb; bomb
was 'left in Diingannon Market
Spar in a'hijacked Van, the
biggest bomb of the whole terrorist
campaign So far, It devastated
both Square and town, as you can
well imagine. The courage and
patience of our people are beyond
praise. They cleared the rubble,
rebuilt, reopened their premises
without pause or .panic. By this
year, we had • a whole new town
almost, busily, prosperous again.
But it was not to be. In February
this year, Friday the 13th, grimly
humorous, terrorists left another
bomb in our Square. Some said 300
lbs., others 500. More strategically"
placed, it caused even more
damage than before. When I saw ,
it, I wept. •
By next tnorning,,our people, all
working together, had the rubble
cleared again. Many had blisiness
as usual' notices nailed to. hard-
board shutters among the ruins. •
Now there is scaffolding every-
wilere, the sound of hammering -
andrreconstruction. Our town will
be rebuilt and will survive. Our
people continue about their every:
day tasks, cheerfully,, fult>.of
