melt down those dirty old high
snowbanks sitting around since
January.,
No one can foretell the weather.
Saturday afternoon would- 'have
been just right to see' •how those
drains around Ripley work, or more
truthfully, do not work, There were
big water ponds all over the place.
Every property along. Malcolm
Street had at least One. Starting at
the west end across from the old
Diamond Jubilee arena, most of
IY,rs. Orr's lawn had water over it.
And away at' the east end of
Malcolm Street, good old Forgotten
Lake was back - well not quite .as
'deep perhaps as when Mrs. Mabel
Barnard and Mrs. Fran Wylds used
to watch the wild ducks on it thirty
years ago. In front of Mary and Joe
Fludder's lot the catch basin Out on
the street was almost full and about
thirty feet away the water was 'on
the top of the ground - one edge or
coast of Forgotten Lake, • Qn the
east side of Mrs. Mae Cotton's
house there were. ponds close by
the New Huron Township Garage.
Across the roadthe property known
as Huron Market, now 'owned by
Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Johnston of

Plan Forfair :.
Fourteen members of ,the Lady.
Directors Section, of Ripley..Agricul-
tural Society met at the home of the
secretary, Mrs. Wm. Arnold, to
plan for •the 19.76 Fair and hold
their annual meeting. All Sections
were represented. The Convener,
Mrs. Howard .ThompSon gave a
report of the year's Work. 'The
Ladies' section of the 1975 Fair had
been very gratifying, and directors
and exhibitors had worked hard.'
Members had attended the District
meetings and six ladies had
attended the convention in. Toronto
in February.
Gratitude was expressed to. Mrs.
D. D. MacLeod and Mrs. Burton
Collins for helping to get out this
year's Advance Lists. The Sections
were reviewed and prizes were
increased in almost every section..
Suggestions were made concerning
judges for this year. Several have
come in to help on the first day of
the Fair and this has proved quite a
help and they will be asked to help
again this year.
Reids Corners Women's Insti-
tute will 'be helping 'with the Booth.
The Friday noon meal will again .be
in charge of Mrs. -Jim Brooks, Mrs.
Stewart Brooks and Mrs. Norman
Barnard. They did a good job last
year, It was suggested that
Directors wear their badges both
days of the Fair and be present at
4.4.15 to help when exhibits \are lifted,.
at 4.30. A report of the convention •
in .Torento.• as it', pertained to the
Ladies Section, was given by Mrs.
Thompson assisted by Mrs. Reg
Godfrey and Mrs. John Gamble.
From this, several new ideas were
given which Directors hope to use
at, this .year's Fair.
Mrs. Howard Thompson will
continue as convener for 1976 with
Mrs. Wm. Arvid as secretary.
Mrs. Dan A. MacDonald and Mrs. ,
JaCk Farrell were nominated for
next year.
. Mrs. Russell Brooks, treasurer of
Ripley Agricultural Society, gave 'a
report of the Society's finances.
These were discussed.
Thes,Flower committee are plan-
ning to have a Special section for
hanging plants this year.
