The third meeting .of Kairshea
Fruit Fars, took place Saturday,
Match 13th at 930 4.01." at the
home, of Mrs. Ritchie. We opened
with the 4-H pledge. Mary Ann
Ritchie •read the minutes of the last
meeting:, Roll Call was taken, "The •
Label of a Can of. Fruit". Margaret
Madam and Teresa Murray
demonstrated how to make Apricot
Puff. Margaret MacIntyre and
• Karen Doelman made peach layer
dessert. Nancy Haldenby and,
Karen ,Doelman made raspberry
bavarian cream. We , tried coconut ,
and, imes. • '
Mrs. Ritchie „talked about fruit
the year 'round , frozen fruits, and
using frozen fruits, also dried frtiits
and using them. Mrs. MacIntyre
talked about canned fruits and our
project.
We closed with the 4-H motto.
We had a delicious lunch. The next
meeting will be Frida'y, March 26th
at 9.30 a.m. at Mrs. MacIntyre's
home. \

Zippy Trinettes
Zippy Trinettes, club number
one,' held their second meeting at
the home of Mrs. Cameron on
March 8 at 7 o'clock. Eight
members' repeated the 4-H pledge,
followed by the roll call. .Each girl
showed their material and describ-
ed her learning stitches article.
Mrs. Hackett discussed colour
harmony. Mrs. Cameron demon-
strated making a pattern, cutting,
learning stitches article and trans-.
ferring design. to fabric. Mrs.
Hackett demonstrated threading a
needle, the, proper way to pull a.
thread from skein, starting and
finishing thread• and the back
stitch'. The members then applied
these techniques to their sampler
and started, their 'learning stitches
article.
The next meeting will be held•
March 22 at 1.30 at the home of
Mrs. Hackett.
Speaking Contest
Held In Ripley •
The 'Ripley Legion held a public
speaking contest in the 4ipley
Legion Hall on Monday; • March 8,
The Legion. president Bill Dan-
forth welcomed everyone. Lloyd
Wylds, the Legion ,Member, in
charge of Public' Speaking, was
,chairman for the evening.
A few remarks were given' by.
Mrs. Marion_ Huston, Ripley Cent-
ral School, Wm. Turvill,' principal
Ripley 'District. School and Mrs..
Katherine 'Collins, teacher, in
charge of Public Speaking at Ripley
District SchoOl.
In Division I, Grades 4, 5 and 6,
Mrs. Huston announced the follow-
ing winners: 1st, Leah Coulbeck
with the topic "Me". Janice.
,Needham speaking on "Olympics"
and Ricky Martin on "Charlie
Brown" were tied for 2nd.
Mr. Turvill announced the win-
ners in the other three divisions as
follows:'. Grades 7 and •8: 1st, David
Ingard, "Railroad' Track Braces";
2nd, Tom Wilson, "Seven Wond-
ers of. the World"; 3rd, Debbie
Lowry, "Olympics". Grades 9 and
10: 1st, Donna Huber, "Shark
Attacks"; 2nd; Ann Drzazga,
'Jeans"; . 3rd, Denise Huber,
"Bermuda Triangle". Grades 11,
12, 13: 1st, Cheryl McGarvey,
"Mononucleosis"; Heather Boyle,
"Hosting Guests for Farm Vaca-
tions" and. Carol MacKay; "Body
Language", tied" for 2nd.
On behalf of the. Ripley Legion
Lloyd Wylds and Bill Danforth ,
presented , the first place winners
with a cash award, a certificate

suitable for frarnitig and a trophy
on which, they will have their name
engraved and which will remain in
the schools. , They will participate
in the District Competition in
Seaforth 'on Saturday, March 13.
The second and third place
winners were presented cash
awards.
The judges were Mrs. ,Audrey
MacDona'ld, Mrs. Alwyn MacAuley
and Mrs./ Beth MacKay. They
were thanked by Lloyd and
presented with a gift by Bill for
their help.
LANGSIDE
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Young, Karen
and Lia.ne visited on Friday evening
with Mi. and Mrs. 'George 'Young
and family of Wingham.
Mrs. Philip Steer spent a few
days in Londoh last' week, visiting '
relatives and returned hoMe with
her daughter Mrs. Ian Wallace,,
who spent the week end with. her,
parents.
Mr. and Mrs.. 'Robert Young,,
Beth and Jane of Chesley visited on...
Sunday with his narents, Mr. and
Mrs. Wesley Young and' also called
on Mr. and' Mrs. Clifford Young.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bregman
attended open house at Centralia
College last Thursday. There was a
large attendance and • a , play,
presented both afternoon and
evening by the students,, was much
enjoyed.
Plans .are being completed for
the, St.. Patrick concert.
The Langside' Whitechurch
Young People cancelled their
regular meeting this week end due
to exams at Wingham High. School.
The next meeting will be held at
Whifechurch on Saturday evening.

return home from University Hos-
pital, London, onrdnesday.
Mrs. Bill Evans, returned home
on Friday after a month in Florida.
Huntley DaWson of 2nd conces-
sion Kinloss visited on Thursday
with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson.
Murray Gibb had the misfortune
on Thursday last while plaYing a
game at the school to have his right
thumb badly broken. He Spent
Thursday to Saltirday in Wingham
Hospital where a cast was put on.
The community , wishes him a
speedy recovery.
Clara . Milligan spent the week
end with her chtn, Beverley Bell,
and plans were ,to attend the Ice
Capades at Kitchener on Sunday.
We are sorry to .report Lloyd
Phillips is a patient at Winghath
Hospital, also Mrs. Short. Both are
wished a speedy recovery.

. Meeting three was held at Mrs.
Kay Thacker's on March 8. We
opened with the 4-H pledge,
Before we had . our business we
prepared apricOt puff an& rasp-
berry bavarian cream.. While the
raspberry bavarian creain . was
setting and the apricot puff was
cooking We read section on pages
17, 18 and 19 , of the members
pamphlet. Our Achievement Day
will be May. 15 in Ripley. We drew
slips 'of paper to see what' fruits we
would have to do our, research on.
For next,week we will have to bring
another dollar because of the cost
of food: Next meeting is at' Mrs.

My' wife and neighbour lead a 4-H -
club
It is called the Silver Lake Fruits
None of them appear to be duds,
In fact they are all pretty cute.
There's seven of 'these sexy girls
Of all different shapes and sizes:
And if a beauty contest they gave a
whirl
They would all win the prizes.
They are learning how to' prepare
the fruit,
It is their teachers wishes,
And I think they are bound to suit
Because they are such nice dishes.
They have to make an apple pie,
And make it really nice;
It also has to catch your eye,
And it will, if they •take their
leader's advice.
They had to prepare fruit in numer-
ous ways;
And in to this they, must put their
heart, •
Because the course , only runs seven
