After a fantastic series with
Goderich, the ,Lueknow Lancers
senior hockey team took on . a
powerful Port Elgin Sunoco teatii.
The verylinal round with Goderieh,
plus a flu bug, left the team short
handed for the, firSt game in the
Port on, Tuesday.
Some determined playing•by the
bush league line provided. the only
bright moment in the game. At,
7.34 of period three,Garry "the
Sprout" Courtney flashed the red
light to foil the Sunoco's shutout
attempt. Assists went to Doug
Stevenson and Al Rhody. ' The
disastrous game ended 12-1 for
Port. Jim' Rayne in net, at times
became a shooting target
Back in Lucknow on Thursday
the Lancers approached the game
with a more positivefranie of. mind.
The boys settled down to a rough
aggressive stYle that bottled up the
Sunocos. The penalty box became
heavily used throughout and work-
ed to the Lancers' disadvantage.
'The Lancers dreW to within one
goal in. the second period at 5-4 for
the Sunocos, but couldn't maintain
the pressure as they ran into a
barage pf penalties. The home
town ' fans stuck with the teani
throughout the game which -ended
8-4 for the power house Sunocos.
Scoring for the Lancers was by
Forster from Stevenson; Livingston
from Murray , and MacKinnon;
MacKinnon from Livingston;. Mur-
ray' from MacKinnon.
Back in Port Elgin Friday night
the game was delayed one hour as
thereferees ran into. a snow storm
travelling from the north. The
bruises frOm the. Goderich series
and seven games in nine days cut
the Lancers' roster' to only twelve
players. Bob O'Donahue played a
very impressive, game despite 16
pucks passing • him' into the net.
The Lancers couldn't mount a
strong attack in the game but

Atoms Eliminate
Mildmay Team
Lucknow Atoms defeated Mild-
may in a best two-out-of-three
series in the consolation round on
Monday night in the local arena.
On Friday night, Luckriow played
in Mildmay 'and after 10 minutes of
overtime the score remained tied at
, 6-6. Lucknow had .a lead of 3-0
going • into the third , period,
• however, after a short lapse, the
score was tied 3-3, and Mildmay
went ahead by one goal. Ltieknow
scored two more, and with just one
Minute left in the period, Mildmay
tied the game, thereby forcing ten
minutes of. overtime. Lucknow
scored a goal early and 'Mildmay
scored again with three minutes,
left. :4
George Alton scored four goals
for Lucknow. Paul Macintyre and
David Emberlin each scored one
goal. •Jamie Bere was credited with
an asslst. •
On Monday night the local boys
played some of their best hookey in
recent weeks, as they outscored,
Mildmay 6-3.
Scoring for Lucknow were Jamie•
Bere, two goals and One assist;
David Emberlin, two goals and one
assist; George •Alton, ,one goal and
3 assists:Wayne Phillips one goal.
Assists, were also credited to Lynn
Murray, Lawrence, Clark, and
Donnie Peterson.
Lucknow now advances into the
next series, which hasn't , been
finaliied as yet.

Back to tucknow Sunday at
eight, for what proved to be the last
game of the series, Port Elgin
proved they deserved-to advance in
the playoffs'. The Lancers gave all
they had' but couldn't control, the
sharp offence of the Sunocos.
Lancers' injury list held some 'key
players off the bench and cut down
their defensive strength.
The Sunocos powered their way
to an 11-4 win with the Lancers
looking very tired. The players and
management of the Lancers wish to
say a big "Thank You" to their
sponsors for' the year and also to
the wonderful•fan support through-
out the year and especially the
playoffs. Considering the slow
start of the team, the Season as a
whole proved reasonably, snecesi-
ful. Thanks,again from one and all,

To Finals
Lucknow Juveniles advanced to
the W.O.A.A. Juvenile Grand
Championship series by virtue of a
win over Clinton in the semi finals.
They won the Clinton series,
three games to One. The final
game in Clinton Friday ended 7-4
for Lucknovv. Lucknow will now
,meet the winner of the northern
group.
Scoring in the Clinton'game was
Tom Peterson,.3 goals; single goals
to Dennis Thompson, Randy Alton,
Paul Simpson and Jeff Taylor.
Assists went to Ken Reid 2, Jeff
Taylor, John Hamilton and Don
Burley.
The Lucknow 'Flea hockey team,
with its' full team of players from
four up, played against Belgrave in
Lucknow Sattirday night They' Ipst
1 to 0 but it, was all for a good
cause, as the Crippled. Children •
fund will 'receive the proceeds of
$53.
On ,Sunday evening, the 'Fleas -
travelled to Kincardine. They
came up on top whining .3-1. Grant
Murray received 2 goals and 1
assist. Todd Ritchie had 1 goal and
2 assists, with Brian De Oroote,
Steve Hamilton and John D,.
MacKenzie each receiving one
assist.
This game was played in the new
Kincardine complex.

On Saturday, March,13th, in the
opening game, the Red Wings
blanked the Canadiens 3 to, O.
Michael Hayes notched two goals
while Mark Haldenby added a
single. The Canadiens were called
for 2 penalties while the Red Wings
made .3, trips-to the sin bin: Jerry
Searle recorded the shut out:
In, the second .game the Rangers
defeated the Leafs 5 •te 2. Morris
Van Osch,„ Peter Van Dyke,, David'
Van Osch, Gerrard Howard and
Jitn Van Osch dented the twine for
the Rangers. Mike Austin and
Shane Hickey replied for the Leag:
In the. final game the Bruins
belted the short handed Black .
Hawks 7 to 3. Richard Jurjeris led
the assault with" 5 goals. Steven
Frayne and Kevin Clark added
singles for the Bruins. Kevin
Smith, Terry Brown and Jim Young
replied for the Black HaWks.
This completes the first round of
the playoffs.' Let's come out and
watch the boys for the final games.
