Society Plan, For
Future Clinic.:
The Bruce County Unit of' the
Canadian Cancer . Society is plan-
ning, to hold a Breast Self-Examin-
ation Clink early ,.hi the spring,
hopefully May 12.. The clinic' is in
the very early stages of .develop-
ment and they are going to need
the help of all members of the. Unit
and Branches.

`Before they 'can go any 'further,
they need to know how; many
women will be able to give ,.their
time on .May 12th, for the Clinic
itself. The clinic will 'be broken•
down into three sessions -- one
from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., one from 2
p.m. to 5 p.m., and finallY•one from
7 p.m. to 10 p.m. They will need
about 12 women for each session.
You will 'be asked to do a variety of
things - registration, baby sitting,
changing linen, even making
coffee. Nurses will 'be able to
volunteer to attend the doctors 'as
they work. .If anyone feels she is
able to help , with this very
worthwhile clinic, please let the
local committee know right away.
You may write or phone the Cancer
Society office in ,Walkerton, or the
local representatives, Mrs. Jack
McKim and Mrs. Alex Andrew.

The Bruce County spring meet-
ing will be held in Knox Presbyter-
ian Church, Walkerton on March 4.
This meeting will get workers up to
date on many things happening
within' the County, - and • • get
Campaign 76 off to a good start. •
The" local committee recently
showed two films on Cancer and
Smoking, at Lucknow Central
Public School, and we have three'
more films ordered to 'be shown.for
the Lions Club, Kinsmen Club and
Busy Buddies.
Memorial donations continue to
be received through the Funeral
Home. Recently the Cancer
Society received $263 in Memory of
the late Mr. Roy McKay.
_i_The annual lineal appeal for funds
will begin in April. Volunteer
canvassers are welcome,.

progressive Authority.'
Two major; long term, land
acquisition programs were approv-
ed by the members. The first
involveS the purchase Of approxim-
ately 35 acres of floodplain land in
Turnherry ToWnship 'in an area
known as Lower Town Wingham.
Land 'will be purchased according
to a list of priorities 'which has 25
acres of heavily flooded land
scheduled for primary acquisition.
The Authority sees this program as
a last resort in its efforts to'
minimize flood damage in the area:
Other flood control measures are
not feasible. Properties will be
purchased' as they become avail-
able, on the open market.
The second, long term, acquisi-
tion ` program involves the 4,000
acre SaratOga Swamp, in West
Wawa:nosh Township. This area is
considered to be of great environ-
mental significance due to the fact
that it is an important water
storage and ground water recharge
area. The Authority presently
owns 457 acres in this swamp and
-hopes eventually to buy, 'a large
portion of it.
Ian Desladriers, Resources Man-
ager, informed the' Authority
members of recent discussion's
involving the Township councils of
East arid West Wawanosh 'and the
Authority executive regarding the
transfer of ownership of the
Wawanosh Municipal Park to the
Authority: Mr. Deslauriers also
reported that Dave Grummett,
Resources Technician is presently
preparing a draft Master Plan map
of the park for presentation to the
councils early. in March.
Marlene Shiell, Secretary-Treas-
urer, presented the revised 1976
budget and announced that admin-
istratiOn estimates have been
revised downward by $20,800. from
the proposed budget presented at
the General Meeting in December.
The total 1976 "Widget is $502,150.
of which $143,200, must be raised
by levies and through donations to
the' Conservatioh 'Foundation.
The menibers also elected a new'
chairman, Lorne Murray of Moore-
field. and Vice Chairman, Vince

District Chairman
,°The Lucknow and . District Leo
Club held their second meeting on
Wectnesday, February 25th at 7.30
p.m. in the auditorium of the town
hall. There were 42 people present
and it is hoped that more will be
at future meetings. '
• New• 'members' were registered
and the guest speaker, Dougald
Campbell, the District Leo chair-
man, addressed the group with
general comments on Leo Clubs.
They found his talk informative
and -interesting.. Conimittees for
Presentation Night, March 26,
were formed and plans evolved.
Lin& Campbell and Rod McDon-
agh conducted a game of bingo in
which •_Mary Anderson was first
prize winner. Refreshments were
sold and the meeting adjourned.

$13,000 Grant To
Help Flooding
A $33;000 Ontario Government
grant will be awarded to the
Maitland Valley Conservation
Authority. to alleviate flood prob-
lems in Listowel, Natural Resourc-
es. Minister leo Bernier has
announced, • .
Preliminary-engineering studies
indicate that the repair and,
improvement of an existing cOnduit
on Middle Mahland River is the
most feasible solution to frequent
and serious flooding in Listowel.
The Authority will initiate detail-
ed design engineering of the
conduit before calling tenders.
Judge of Listowel. 'Arden Barker of
Mornington•Township was acclaini-
ed chairman of.the ReforeStatien,
Land Use and Wildlife" Advisory
Board. David Gower, TOwn of
Goderich and Harrold Hydman of
Howick. Township were acclaimed
chairMen of the Water Manage-
ment' Advisory Board and Public
Relations Advisory Board respect-
ively. .
In his inaugural remarks, Lorne
Murray expressed his deep apprec-
iation for the confidence which the
members had expressed in him.
He went on to say that he sees the
long term land , acquisition pro;
grams as .being very important in
the future work of the Authority.
-The Lower. Town Wingham pro-
gram is especially significant and
must he emphasized he , said.
He added that a great deal of
hard work and co-operation' will be
needed ,to 'iron out the. problems,
surrounding the registering 'of
floodplain regulations but that this
must Come about. - •
