who were married on Saturday,
'February 21 in Ripley Knox
Presbyterian Church ; are at pres-
ent enjoying a honeymoon holiday
in Hawaii. The marriage of Mrs.

Allan Wyld of Huron Township
underwent further spinal surgery
last week in St. Joe's Hospital in
London.

In the hockey tournament last
Saturday in Blyth, the Ripley Atom
B. team, managed and coached ,by
Harold Keelan and Bob Harris,
won the trophy • for the second
consecutive year. In the first game .
Ripley. played Moncton winning 3
to 1 and in the final game they won
over' hometown Blyth 8 to 0. Goal
scorers were Paul Keelan 4, Danny
Macbdiald, Paul Harris and Mit-
chell 'Twolan, 2 each, and a' single
by Jeff Elliott. Our thanks to Mrs.

This week Mr. and Mrs.. Norman
bet. 1852. Both received their first
educationln one, room Ripley area
schools and both, went on to teach
in the • city of Toronto, And now.
their final resting Place is.Ripley

Katherine, the daughter of ,the
late Mr. and. Mrs. John Macon-
aid, was born on the family
homestead lot 26, concession 8, two
blocks west of Ripley on the road. to
Pine RiVer on March `10,1903. This
is the pioneer home farm of 'the
"Yarrie", IvIcDnnalds in Huron.
From there she attended S.S. No. 6
public school, then Ripley confirm-
ation School and •Stratford,Normal
School. In this area , she taught at
the Virden School . on the .4th
,concession west in Huron Town-
ship - oppcisite Mike Snobelen's
grain drying plant, and now it is
used by John Inglis Contracting for
a work shop. Finally, she joined
the Toronto teaching staff as also
did brothers. Norman and Murdock.
The funeral service held' last
Friday afternoon at the McLennan-
McCreath Home in Ripley was
taken by the minister of the Ripley,
Knox Presbyterian Church, Mr.'
Richard Sand, followed' by tempor-
ary entombment in the Ripley
Cemetery Chapel with spring
burial in Ripley Cemetery.
Katherine was predeceased by
Her husband Archie in 1947 and by
her brothers Dr. John A. MacDon-
ald on March 1;, 1961, and Donnie
on December 29, 1969. She is
survived by brothers Norman and
Murdock of Toronto. Also known
locally are her nephews Dr. Donald
J. MacDonald, medical specialist in
Toronto, lawyerfarquhar .MacDori-
ald in Toronto, and dentist Dr.
Sandy MacDonald in Kincardine
and niece Mrs. Marietta (MacDon-
ald) DawsOn in Perth, Australia.
To all these sympathy is 'extended
at this time of bereavement.
Mr, and Mrs. Gary Pollock and
family of Metro-Toronto spent last
week end with his parents Mr. and
Mrs. Mel Pollock in Ripley-.

/ural Society March meeting with '
president Morley • Scott of Purple
Grove in charge. Delegates to the
Ontario Agricultural Societies con-
vention on February '18 and 19 will
be making reports next Monday
evening.

Edward Brown of Lucknow,
teacher and guidance counsellor at
the Ripley District High School,
will speak to 'the members of the
Ripley Women's Institute to-mor-
row afternoon,-March 4th at 2 p.m.
in the Ripley Huron Legion Hall.,
,,Mrs. Francis, Gemmell draws
attention to the change of date and
time. The business session will be
at 1.30 p.m. All ladies of the
community are' welcome to attend
to hear Mr. Brown explain ,the
various secondary school pro-
grams.

Paul Greenwood, who showed
slides 'of Indonesia, New Zealand
and Australia. She told many
interesting things about the count-
ries in which she and 'her huSband
lived and worked. Miss Robertson
gave a few thoughts on "Repel.
lants". The courtesy remarks were
given ,by Mrs. D. Campbell.
- A lovely lunch was served- by
Mrs. Russell Brooks; Mrs. Duncan -
McLeod and Mrs. Bert Irwin. After
the meeting some members visited

On Sunday evening, February
22, Donald Courtney of Wingham
and formerly of the Amberley area,
suffered a cerebral haemorrhage in
Toronto. Donald was checking his
car, preparing for the return trip. to.
Wingham, when stricken.. He was
in hospital in Toronto and his
trarisfer to Wingharn is planned.

week after a winter vacation with
his sister in mid Florida.

tural Society met' on Febritary 1.7 at
the home of Mrs. Orville Finlayson
in Ripley with an attendance of .40

A bus trip to the Flower Show in
For the second time in four short
weeks a retired Toronto teacher
and a former Ripleyite has been
claimed by sudden death, On,
Tuesday, February 24th, 1976 Mrs.
Katherine Pierce was unexpectedly
stricken and rushed to Wellesley
Hospital where she passed away.
The former Katherine MacDonald
was one of four top teachers in the
family Dr. John A„ Norman,
Murdock, and herself. On Tues-
day, January 20, Harry. L. (Lyle)
Martyn, another Ripleyite and
noted Toronto teacher and educator
was' stricken and died on the
Toronto subway. Both were
descendants of ':the 109 families
coming to Huron Township from
Lewis Island, Scotland , in Septem-

After transfer there they flew on a
Cuban, plane to the Isle of Pines..
Herethey were spending four days
atthe Colony Rotel on the romantic
Isle of Pines. Then for' the
remainder of their vacation they
return to Havana and to Varadero
and the Kawam Hotcl there, The
former DuPont estates are located
in the Varadero area, east of
Havana.
