PUBLIC SPEAKING
On Wednesday, February 25; the
Ripley-Huron Central School held
their Public. Speaking contest.
These are the students who
presented their . speeches at the
school. Gary Rutledge - Grade 5;
Mary Farrell Grade .6; Tanya.
Allan - Grade 6; Janice Needham -
Grade 5;, Tammy Sorbara - Grade 4; '
Julie Farrell - Grade 6; Leah,
Coulbeck' - Grade 4; Ricky Mark -
Grade 6 and Kenny Elliott Grade
5. All 'of the speeches were very
.good•but only three could win. The
judges 'must have had' a hard time
deciding but the three they chose
were Janice Needham, Ricky
, Martin and Leah Coulbeck. Theke
three students will represent
Ripley-Huron Central School at the
Legion Contest on March 3, 1976.

FLOOR. HOCKEY
Floor hockey is over for another
year. In the playoffS for the girls
the Nudies beat the Road Runners
4-3. In the playoffs for the boyS the
Hawks beat the Road Runners 7-3.
This means that •the /teams of the
Hawks and the Nudies will receive
floor hockey tabs.
SCIENCE FAIR
The. Science Fair was quite a
success. Everyone enjoyed the
entries and watched with interest
the different models in motion.
The Primary classes, that particip-
ated did well with their display, as
part of their Science work. We
extend congratulations 'to the
winners, and better luck next time
'to the remaining students that had
entries but did not share in the
prizes. •
GUATEMALA RELIEF FUND
The Staff and Students of
Ripley-Huron Central School con-
tributed $158.80 to the Relief Fund
for the children in Guatemala who
were victims of the recent earth-
quake. We • would like to thank
everyone for their generous dona-
tions. •

FEBRUARY 1956
An eighty-year-Old landmark',
the Fourth Concession, school-
house, was being torn down. The
school had not been used for some
time. The building was sold by
auction. S. S. No. 6, familiarly
known As Grey Ox school, was built
in 1874 and first opened on January
1st, 1875. For several years prior
to 1956, students of this section had
been transported to Lucknow.
Foster G. Moffat, octogenarian
Kinloss Township farmer, retired
from the Culross Mutual Fire
Insurance Company, which 'he had
served for more than half his
lifetime. Mr. Moffat had been
associated with the company for
forty-four years and was secretary-
treasurer 'for thirty-two years. A
presentation /was made in recogni-
tion of his long and valued service.

FEBRUARY 1936
Donald . Henderson, : son of Mr.

and Mrs. J. W. Henderson,
Lucknow, was appointed secretky-
treasirer of the Lucknow 'School
Board at a salary of $50 per year.
The ice harvest was..funderway
locally, with Clair Milne in charge
of opecations being conducted on
Treleaven',s ,Mill pond.
'.1Ohn McQUillin "was elected
president of the Lucknow .Agricul-
tural Society. Other officers were
1st vice, S. E. Robertson; 2nd vice,
Frank Todd; secretarytreasurer,
Joseph Agnew. The retiring
president, Jacob Hunter, had
served for two, years.
As owners and exhibitors of the
Grand Championship steer at' the
Royal Winter , Fair, TorOnto„ Frank
Todd and his son Tom of St. Helens
:were publicly honoured at a
banquet in the village. The turkey
banquet, sponsored by the Luck-
now Booster's Club, attracted an
overflow gathering and was catered
to by the Lucknow Women's
Institute.
