One With Paisley
Lucknow Midgets travelled to
Paisley Saturday for the first game
in their best five series in
W.O.A.A. consolation . playoffs
with, the boys -to the north. This
was a close checking contest with
the emphasis on defence, standout
goal tending and close calls.
Midway in the first period,
Paisley took advantage of a
Lucknow penalty to score what
proved to be the only goal Of, the
game.. •
If the Lucknow attack seemed a
little less determined than usual, it'
was probably caused by the noon
starting time, when a knife and fork
are more familiar in the hands of
most • midget -age lads, than .a
hockey stick. Final score was
Paisley 1, Lucknow O.
'The second game of the series,
was played in Lucknow ,Sunday
night with the local team coming
our on top of an 8-4 score. •'
Paisley led 2-1 at the end of the ,
first period and strengthened their .
lead by notching the first marker in
the second period. Lucknow got
rolling with three goals in the
second and few-in the third before
Paisley got back On 'the board with
the final 'goal of the game.

Blyth. Midgets came to' Ripley
Friday night to start the final round
in the VVOAA "E" championships.
These teams are always well
matched, but excitement reached
its peak, when with the score tied,
and Ripley two men short, Mike
Pollock scored.
About a minute later,, still in the
same situation, Larry Farrell beat
the goalie to make the score '5-3.
The Ripley squad never looked
back, and, ended 'the game with a
9-5 victory.
Robert Regier beat the goalie 5
times,: with Mark Stanley, Chris:
McGarvey, Larry Farrell and Mike
Pollock each scoring, once. The
second game was in Blyth Monday
night. Ripley won 8-5 to win ,the
W.O.A.A. Midget "E" Champion-
ship.
They play Langton this week end
in the O.M.H.A. playoffs.
Lucknow's Flea heekey, team
won the, championship trophy in
,the annual. Tyke tournament 'in
Myth on Saturday, Todd Ritchie
Was picked as the most colourful
player for the Lucknow team.
Four teams were entered, Rip-
ley, Blyth,'Belgrave and Lucknow.
In ,the, first game, . Lucknow
defeated Blyth 3 to 2. '' Grant
Murray 'scored 2 goals' and had 1
assist with Todd Ritchie scoring the
other goal and getting one assist.
Alex West and John D. MacKenzie
each received one assist,
In the second 'game, Ripley
defeated Belgrave. Blyth then
defeated Belgrave for the consola-
tion final.
The championship, game provid-
ep another exciting, game for the
fans with Lucknow defeating Ripley
7 to 3.

boys 2 to 0 in the first period and
then the Lucknow m started

Since last writing two weeks
back, the Lancers finally put a four
game winning streak together and
"made the league playoffs.
Last week's deadline was missed
because of all the confuion over. a,
Protest from Clinton. . The protest
was denied and Lucknow won the
last playoff spot, two points over.
Hanover and Clinton.
• On. February 18 Lucknow,went to
Goderich and dropped a crucial,
game 8 to 1 to Godetich. - At, that
point the end' ` of the season
certainly looked close, as the
Lancers ; had to win all three
remaining games to stay alive.
Paisley came to town on Friday, the
20th and faced a real fired up team.
They started slowly, as usual, and
spotted Paisley a 3-0 lead in the
first period, before Jim Murray
finally lit the fire. PaisleY was
never in the game from ,that point
on. As the boys racked up a 7-3 win
in front of a pleasing home town
crowd, scoring was well spread
over the team. 'Jim Murray had 3
goals, with singles going to Donald
Mann, Harvey Livingston; Dave
MacKinnon and. GrahaM Hamilton.
This was a four point game as time
was, running out for playoff
deadline.
On Satutday the Lancers got two
points the easy way as Acton never
showed. 'We wish to thank the fanS
for their understanding with the
situation and for' coming back with
great support.
The following day the Lancers
went to Clinton for the final do or
die game. They took control of th'e
game right from the start and led

Lucknow Atoms warmed up for
the -beginning of the W.O.A.A.
Consolation. Series' by defeating
Teeswater 8-0 on Monday night in
the Litcknow arena in an exhibition
game., •
Scoring for Lucknow were
*Wayne Phillips, three goals; Paul
Pickard, two goals; George Alton,'
two goals and one assist; David
Emberlin, one goal and one assist.
Other assists went to Kenny Irwin
two;' Jamie Bere two; and Duane
Rivett one.
Lucknow is now scheduled to
play Mildmay'in the first round of
the consolation , series. Their next
hOme game will. be Monday night.

Frayne in the first period. The
Lancers 'skated hard and never let
down to lead the whole game. Bob
O'Donahue 'was very steady 'in net
holding Clinton to 3 goals. Graham
Hamilton with `2 goals, Paul Frayne
with one and John Eniberlin with :
two rounded. off the scoring for a
6-3 win. The defencemen played a
particuiatly effective game and
came in for some high praise.
Assisting on the goals were Jim
Farrish and Graham Hamilton, One
each and two each: to Ross Forster
and poug Stevenson.
Clinton lOdged a protest for too
many players signed and after .
three° anxious days and a trip to
Stratford to' a meeting, the Lancers
Were officially in • the playoffs
against Goderich. The playoff was
late starting. and Goderich lost the
starting game to us in Lucknow on.
Friday night. --Goderich -came out
strong before a large and lively
crowd and took a, 4-1 lead ending
the first perio.1 Lucknow dominit-
ed the second period completely
with a switch of goal tenders to Jim
Frayne. The period ended with
Lucknow's , 4 unanswered goals
putting them in the lead 5-4. The
Lancers let down a little and the
sailors kept coming on strong with
two goals in the last half of the
period. Jim Murray tied the game
again with 5 minutes left to play
and the Lancers took off again. Jim
Murray scored again at the 2.15
mark to end the game 7-6.
Goderich stayed right in thegame
and , pulled the goalie out , but
couldn't control the puck , in
Lucknow's end.
This game should indicate that
the Lancers are worthy of being in
Flea Tournament
This Weekend
This week end will mark the
Lucknow' Flea Hockey Tournament
on Saturday, March 6 sponsored by,
Lucknow Recreation , ittee.
Teams will be corn • ting for the
Lucknow Legion C ampionship
trophy and a consolation trophy
donated by LucknoW Recreation

The second gaine back in
Goderich on Sunday ended in a 3-0
score for the sailors. The play was
much' closer than, the score. with
GOderich goalie very shdrp on
several shots. At writing time, the
schedule. wasn't completely set ,as
the 0.11-I.A. were pressuring to
finish this round-by' March 7. ?The
next definite home game will be
Saturday, March 6 and in Goderich
Wednesday, March 3.
Kinsmen Undefeated
in "Three Games
Lucknow Kinsmen stretched
their undefeated streak 'to three,
games on Saturday night as they
outscored the Ontario Provincial •
Policeteam by a score of 8-6 in the .
annual Kinsmen-().P.P. game. In
a fun filled game, in assist. in .
community service work, the
Kinsmen 'Service ' projects will
benefit by over $100. .
A number .of assault charges,
disappearance of referecs , and
various other penalties were called
to' add to the fun filled gantc. The
0.13,P, 'members are to he congrat•
ulated for their sportwanship.

while the rest of the happy team

The tournament will be one the
boys, the coaches and the support-
ers will not soon forget. FrOm the
first game, to the final-game,' it was
action at' its best. The parents and
other members of the team are to
be congratulated for their support
towards the team in the tourna-
ment. Lucknow will hold their
annual Flea Tournament next
Saturday, March the 6th.

boys travelled to Goderich to play
and came up, on top 5 • to 1. Goal
scorers for Lucknow' were: Alex'
West, 1 goal and 1 assist;, Todd
