The .first meeting ,of Zippy
Trinettes 1 was held Tuesday
evening at 7 p.m. at the lime of
Mrs. D.A. Hackett. • There were 7
members present. 'The meeting
opened with. the 4-H pledge. '
The election of officers took
place, president, Lori Hackett; vice
president, Janet Wilkins; secret-
ary, Susan Irwin; press reporter,
Joan Hackett. The meetings yvill •
be held Monday evenings at 7 p.M.
The next meeting will be held
March 8 at Mrs'. Camerons,
Mrs. Hackett gave a general
outline of the project, including the
requirements of club members.
She also discussed the different
articles' we are to make for this
project and the quality of material
to 'select. . We were told the 7
different stitches we will learn and
how they will be applied on 'a
sampler for our record books.
Mrs. Cameron discussed colOurs
from the colour wheel and the
different shades that blend well
together. She showed us how the
background . makes' a difference
when choosing colours. She also
explained the , contents of our"
sewing box. We are, to choose our
learning stitches article before the
next meeting and bring our
material and embroidery , floss to
next ,meeting:

4H Club President
The Lucknnow No. 1 4-H club
met on 'Thursday, February 26 at 7
p.m. at the home of Mrs. Ritchie,,
,
Each girl present answered the roll
call' which 'was, "Fruit we freeze,
can or dry at home".
• Elizabeth Black read the min-
utes , of the last., meeting, The
treasurer,, Joanne Ritchie gaVe her
report. Each girl gave a One '
minute report on her two different
fruits. Some.of the girls read their
dinner menus from, the last
meeting home assignments. Mrs.'
Ritchie went over pastry making
and baking with fruits.
Nancy Ritchie demonstrated how
to make a pie from' a' recipe using
fresh apples while Nancy Alton
demonstrated how to• make an
apple pie using a pastry mix and
canned apples. Elizabeth Ritchie
demonstrated how to make oriental
chicken. We sampled them all,
which everyone enjoyed.
We closed with the 4-H creed.

Everyone' was deligiited'- Wayne,
Willis, and, obviously, the movie-
going public that made. it a
tremendous box-office' success.
Spurred on, Wallis, . whose films
have won 32 Oscars, began to think
of a follow-up. It turned out to be
his production of ;`Rooster Cog-
hurn", starring . John Wayne and
Katharine Hepburn, opening at the
Lyceum in Wingham on March 3.

Deputy Marshal, and Katharine
Hepburn plays the part of Eula
Goodnight, a Bible-spouting mis-
sionary who teams up with the
gun-fighter to avenge the death of
her father. Whether speeding
through the forest to elude
pursuing oetlaws, or, battling white
water on a river raft, the legendary ,
pair give a special magic to the
outdoor adventure' drama.
"Rooster Cogburn" was Mined
on lecation in the Cascade . Moen-
,tains and high deserts of Oregon,
with raft sequences on the Rogue
River. ,
"The Longest. Yard", the popu-
lar movie which stars Burt ;Rey-
nolds' as the captain 'of the prison
football - team, returns to the
Lyceum on 'March 7, 8, and 9.
Playing with "The Longest -Yard"
is "Framed", an action picture
starring Joe Don Baker of "Walk-
ing Tall". fame.
Auburn 4H Club
Meeting #2 'of Auburn III club'
was held at Mrs. June Robinson's
home on February 28th. Ellen
Thompson opened the meeting.
Jane Thompson read the minutes
and took the roll call.
Mrs. Robinson demonstrated the
backstitch. Cathy ,Foran demon-
strated how to straighten the fabric-
and transfer a pattern. The
menibers started' their samples.
The meeting was closed.
Silver Lake 4H
Elects Officers
Seven 4-H girls met at Kay
Thackers at 7.00 p.m. Monday,
February 23. The meeting opened
li•epeating the 4-H pledge. Jean
,Lizmore arid Kay Thacker are the
leaders.
The election of officers were as
follows: president, 'Joanne van
Beers; vice president, Valerie
Stanley; press reporters, Dianne
Bushell and Janice. Thompson. The
leaders' 'briefly summarized the
club, meetings.
We sampled Hot 'Spiced Apple
Juice and Fruit Jellies, which were
supplied .by Mrs. Jean Lizmore.
They were enjoyed by all. •
Kay Thacker provided samples
of Ida Red apples. Dianne Bushell,
Lavonne Devitt and Janice Thomp-
son made Grape Sparkle. Date
Mallow Chews were made by
Janice Stanley, Susan Hedley,
Valerie Stanley, and Joanne van
Beers. After they were finished,
lunch was served and 'everybody
thought they were delicious:'

Lizmore's on Monday, March I.

Is Club President
The first meeting of • Zippy
Trinettes 2 4-H was held on
Monday; February 23rd at Mrs.
Dona Campbell's. There were '
eight members present.' The
leaders of the club are Mrs. bona
Campbell and Miss Elva-Ritchie.
The meeting was opened by
repeating the 4-H pledge. Elva
Ritchie discussed requirements of
the club and gave a general outline
of the project. Mrs. Campbell
discussed our samplers, suitable
fabric and the coloured wheel. We
alse discessed our work box. For
m etinge two we are to have
embroidery thread, needles, scis-
sors, hoop and other material
ready.
We decided to keep our same
club name. The election of officers
was held and they are: president,
Barbara Hackett; vice president,
Sharon Alton; secretary, each girl
in turn; press reporter, Janice,
Hackett. The next meeting will be
held on Monday night, March lst,
at 7.00 p.m., at Mrs. Dona
Campbell's.
Apple Dumpling
Gang
- The fifth meeting of the Lucknow
Apple Dumpling Gang was held
February 25 at the home of Karen
Elliott. The meeting, opened with
the 4-H• pledge. Debbie Bolt read
the secretary's report followed by
Kathy Brooks giving the treasur-
er'S report. The date of Achieve-
ment Day. was 'Aiscussed. '.:Two
leaders and seven girls answered
the roll call. •
, Karen Elliott and Nancy Walden
showed how tb make two types of
,apple pie which each girl sampled
' at the end of the meeting. Menus
dealing with Canada's'. Food Guide
were discussed. Elaine Whitby
and Debbie Bolt repotted on their
fruits for Achievement Day. The
meeting closed with the 4-H motto.
Fruity Five
The second, ,meeting took, place
Saturday, February 28th at 9.30
a.m. at the home of Mrs. Ritchie.
Aftetethe 4-H pledge was recited,
the roll. call 'was taken', "Two
reasons why. I eat fruit". Dianne
McBride read the minutes of the
last Meeting:. We decided on our
club name. Marilynne Maclntyre
and Linda .Verner showed us how
Baked Apples were made:.
The leaders .talked about fresh
fruits, uses of fresh fruit, iMported
fresh fruit, inspection and grading
of fruit. Mrs. Ritchie showed us
how to section a grapefruit. MrS.
MacIntre demonstrated how to
make a,fruit cup and an apple salad'
mold. Those of us who had not
demonstrated earlier made frosted
grapes,, nutted bananas and orange
fans. Mrs. Ritchie showed us how
to cut a. grapefruit for serving.
After eating a delicious lunch, we
closed with the motto.
The next meeting, will be held
March 5 at 4.00, in' the Lucknow
School.
Kairshea
4-H CLUB #2
Kairshea 4-H club #2 was held on
Saturday, February 28th at the
home of Mrs.. Leonard Clark. Five
girls were present. The meeting
opened with the 4-H pledge. .
Laurie Clark demonstrated a
"peach layer dessert" which was
very good. Mrs. Evan Keith made
a "raspberry bavarian cream".
This was very good also. We tasted
the plate of dried fruits which Mrs.
,Clark. Served.
The next meeting will be held on
Saturday, March 6th at the home of
Mrs. Evan Keith.
Fruit Cups
The Clover Valley Fruit Cups
held their fourth meeting at' the
home of Donna Elphick. on Wed-
nesday, February 25 at. 7.15.
We Opened/ with 4-H pledge,
which was'followed by the roll call.
Lynn Elphick read the minutes Of
the last meeting which -were
adopted correct' as read. Wendy
Hamilton gave a treasurer's report.
Wexere all in faYour:of designing
a design for a quilt block to be in a
4-H quilt. We were also given an
application for trips and awards.
The next meeting is to, be held at
the home of Charlene Elphick .
March 3 at 7.15.
BOth leaders discussed planning
daily meals, fruit at breakfast,
lunch and dinner as well as fruit
snacks. Mrs. 'Ken Elphick,
assisted by Johanna Vandiepen,
demonstrated the making 9f orien-

al chicken, Mrs. David Elphick
emonstrated a salad plate.
After this each member .4 made
and ate their own fruit salad plate.
We then had on . a group discussion
how to make my record book, a
helpful permanent reference. All
members sampled the oriental
chicken, avocados and pau-paus,
The meeting was closed with the
4-H creed.

Whitechurch ° Fruity Five 4-H
club held their 3rd meeting
February 25 at the home of leader
Mrs. Walter Elliott.
• President, /Lori Anne Jamieson,
opened the meeting with the 4-H
pledge.. .Lori Purdon read the
minutes. Forms were passed out
for various things. Kathy Purdon
and Lori Anne are dishwashers for
next week and with Mrs. Purdon
they will demonstrate oriental
chicken and fruit plate. Kathy
Purdon distributed recipes and
pamphlets she had received. The
roll call was answered by 5
members all showing fruit labels
and what could be found on it.
Clara' Milligan demonstrated
raspberry bayarian. Wendy Kay
did peach layer dessert and Lori
Jamieson made the sauce,. A
diseussion was on year round
frozen, dried, and canned fruits,
Group work - each member was
given 3 fruits to look up information
on., A 'grocery list given was
lettuce, peaches. apples, pears,
eheirieg, oranges, ,grapes, grape-
fruit, leritons, bananas, pineapple,
cottage Cheese, walnuts: Each.
Member 'is to bring 3 things.
Home assignment - 3 grades of
canned fruit or juice and each' to
collect information on each grade.
Meeting closed repeating 4-H
1', creed.
Cherry. Blossoms
The , third meeting of the
•Holyrood Cherry Blossoms 4-H
club was held On Saturday,
. February 28th at the home of Mrs..
Hank Duiker. It was an interesting
mixture of discussiou on frOzen,
canned and dried fruits with their
uses. . •
For the roll call each member*
brought a label from a fruit can and
noted important'HF','',ils to look for
on these labels. Recipes tried were
raspberry bavarian :cream by Lea
Anne Haldenby and CarOl Wilson
and apricot puff by Mary Eadie,
Wilma Duiker and Marilyn Rhody
and were completed.
Mts. „ Gerald Rhody brought
dried apples for the Class to' taste
and gave her /recipe for . making
them.
The 4.H pledge was repeated for'
the opening and the meeting cloSed
with the National' 4-H creed.
