Last Friday afternoon it was mild
outside like spring in the air. With
no 'Old north or west"'-winds, the
doors of the Ripley Chopping Mill
were open and, the wheels, of the
grinders were turning. Inside were
the two millers - one from Lucknow
and the other froni Bervie. One
could not help thinking how much
better these millers were than the
one currently striking at different
regions in Western Ontario.
17th. It was in the Royal ork
Hotel. Three ,buses from Owen
Sound took 250 delegates down
from Bruce County. Each of these
delegates had the Bruce' tartan
displayed. Bruce County is this
year having the International
Plowing Match at a, site west ,of
Walkerton. The delegates from
this area, met one of the.three, buses
on' number 9 highway at the end of
the 15fh road. These included the
following - Mrs, Marion McCharl-
es,. Donald 'MacTavish, Chester
Emmerton, Mrs. Margaret Blue,
Jim • Brooks, M. and Mrs. John
Scott, Orville Elliott, , Mrs. Ann'
Mason, Mrs. Peter Cooleand Mrs.
Russell. Phillips, Marion McCharl-
es wrote the poem "Bruce Beck-
ons"• specially for the convention
and for the International; Plowing
Match, at Walkerton from Septem-
ber 28 to October 2nd. Marion also
had a display,exhibit 'for the Bruce
Plowing Match Wand , it was' ,on
exhibit 'through' Tuesday and then
for thp Ontario Fall Fairs Conven7,
tion Which followed' on Wednesday
and Thursday.

The convention of the Ontario
Agricultural Societies was held last
Wednesday and Thursday in the'
Royal York Hotel in Toronto. . A
Bruce .Coach Lines bus starting at
Tiverton then Kincardine, Ripley
and Teeswater and Mildrnay picked
up delegates on Wednesday morn-
ing for this convention and ,then
returned' late Thursday afternoon.

one and invited all to visit them, A'
bountiful lunch Was then served' to
end a pleasant evening.

On Friday morning, .Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Tranter and Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Pollock headed south
from Ripley bound for Florida.
With the return of snow Sand. slush
on Saturday, and wintry conditions
on Sunday, it was a sensible thing
to do.

During the milder weather last
week Leonard Farrell of Malcolm
• Street in Ripley reported sighting a
groundhog outside its burrows on
the hills north of Kincardine. .At
the time Leonard was returning
home from his job at the Bruce
Nuclear Plant. '

Coach Lines buses had a busier day
than usual in Ripley.. The first one
Was in Ripley. about six-thirty in the
morning picking up delegates for
the Agricultural Societies, Conven-
'tiori in the Royal York Hotel in
Toronto. Then there were more
buses 'in the afternoon and
evening.
