Snowmobile Club
The 19757 76 Winter Trail Recre-
ation Program is well underway ,in
the Wingham District. Approxi-
mately 9 miles of cross country ski
trails' and 6 miles of snowmobile
trails are .being maintained by the
Ministi:y on public land. The trails
are well used and 'the Wingham
Office of the Ministry of Natural
Resources has received several
complimentary letterS concerning
the Condition and lay-out of these.
,Through the program, trails are
also being encouraged on 'private
land. This is accomplished by
providing assistance to area clubs
and agencies for the maintenance
of their own trails. 'These trails
must then be opened to the public.
Applications for financial assist- •
ance were received from 5 clubs in
the Wingham District.
Grants for each of these clubs
have been approved as follOws:

An unusual rock formation has been th.E. 'centre of attention -in the
Lucknov. Sentinel window this past ' week. •
A rock found by Dick McQuillin
of the 6th of kinloss has .a rather
ancient birthday. It is reported to
be 2.2 billion years' old. Dick and
his son Ronnie were picking stones•
in a field Plowed up last Fall when
the unusual rock was noticed.
W, B. Pearson ,°a professor at the ,
U1*ersity of Waterloo and a part
time resident of Kinloss where. he
has a recreation'property. took the
stone to 'the Earth Science Depart-
meni at the University.

A piece of the rockformation was
• cut off' and analyzed; with 'the
following conclusions by the univ`;•
ersity. "The formation is Gowanda
Conglomerate formed 2.2 billion
years agq\ by' glacial action in
Hurdnia Times.• It is a tillite •
formed by glaciers melting and ,
depositing 'the conglomerate. • It
probably came from the Sudbury or
Espanola region carried doWn to
Kinloss by glaciers 100.000 years
ago in Pliestocene times. The
