will hold its annual, meeting' on
Wednesday, February 25 at' Dun-
gannon Agricultural Hall at 8.30

Paul Ackert Is
Named President
Of Leo Club
Lucknovv and District Leo Club
held their first organization pieet-
ing onWednesday, February, 11' at
7.30. p.m. in the basement of the
town hall.
41 people were registered and an
election of officers was conducted.
The new executive is president,
Paul Ackert; vice president, Mea
Peterson;• secretary, •Susan Brooks;
treasurer; Ron Johnson; board of
directors, Kevin , Cowan, Rick
Conley. and Karen Campbell.
Anyone betvveen the ages of 13
and 18 wishing to join should be
registered' and paid on or before
•February 25. Anyone who will be
13 before Presentation Night,
March 26, is' eligible to join.
The next' meeting will be
February 25, upstairs of the town
hall at 7.30, sharp and will be a
slight bit Jonger.
• One of the, Leo advisors, Rod
MCDonagh, conducted a contest
which Kivin 'Machan won and
refreshments were sold. A short
executive meeting was held and the
meeting adjourned at 10 p.m.

Community planning study
grants totalling $25,016 have been
allocated to the Town of Deep
River, the Township's of Manvers
and South Monoghan and the
Villages of Cookstown and Luck-
now, Housing Minister John Rhod-
es announced this week.
Deep River will receive $9,086;
Manvers Township $2,505 and the
Township of .Monoghan $3,900.
Cookstown has' been allocated
$6,525 and Lucknow will receive
$3,000.
Lucknow is in the process of
completing an official plan and
zoning bylaws for the village at a
total-cost of.$6,000. •The work is

Lucknow Skating Club will hold a
Skateathon in, the •Lucknow arena
on Wednesday, March 24th with
proceeds to assist with Skating
Club. expenses. •
Participants will have the oppor-
tunity to skate 24 hours and skaters
finishing the 24 hours will receive a
trophy. A $10.00 voucher will go to
the skater who raises . the most
money and completes the 24 hours.
Anyone can participate in this .
Skateathon and the arena will be
open to the, public.
The Skateithon will be' under
adult supervision. Fobd will be
provided throughout the 24 hours:

Shoulder Surgery
.... Jim Webster, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Wellington Webster of Amb-
erley, had the misfortune to break a
bone in his ankle, January 31 while
skating, Jim tripped on his skates
while playing tag.
Pebruary 8th, he entered St.
Marys Hospital in Kitchener to'
have the •muscles in his left
'Shoulder repaired, Jiin• Fell in mid
August at his boarding house,
landing•on his shbulder. He was
off work then for 6 weeks.

This grant will reduce
Lucknow's net cost to about $3,000.
The grants are*designed to assist
municipalities in preparing official
plans and zoning by-laws or in
bringing these up to an acceptable
level, '
The funds can also be used to
prepare, zoning by-laws to replace
Minister's zoning orders and to
finance planning programs for
unorganized municipalities.
The grants are allocated as part
of the Ministry of Housing object-
ive of assisting municipalities in
the .preparation of sound planning
programs.

In Winter" Outing
At St. Augustine
Twenty members of a Hamilton
based Emergency Measures Or-
ganization spent an exciting week
end on a "survival in winter"
project on the former Ray Leddy
farm in West Wawanosh, near St.
Augustine, now owned 'by Thomas
Potter.
Most of the 19 to 25-year-olds
spent two nights at the back* of the
100 acre farm. During the day on
Saturday, February 14th, they
made rescue signals in the snow for
an E.M.O. aircraft from their home
base near Hamilton:

after 44' hours.
Doug Haldenby was _hired as
assistant village foreman at an
increase of 12% from $4.00 to $4.48
per hour. Overarm will lie time
and .one-half after 44 hours.
'Both are subject to anti-inflation
board approval.
All are retroactive to January,
1976.
The honorariums for Reeye and
Council were Set at: 'Reeve $650,
the same as last year; Council,
$600, up from $500 last year.i,

Allan Miller, of 'Langside consid-

contents following an incident he

• Allan was doing the•milking and
detected a weird smell, like rubber
burning, coming from an area in
the barn. Upon investigating,
smoke was noticed coming from the
area.:
It was later determined that rats
had chewed electric 'wires in two
and that only the fact that the area,
was damp likely saved the barn
from destryction by fire. -
Allan 'called in local electrician
Murray Moffat' who corrected the
problem.

Roy MacKay Died
Roy MacKay of Lucknow died in
Wingham and District Hospital on
Saturday, February, 14th. He was
76 years of,age. ,
The funeral was held Tuesday,
Vebruary 17th from MacKenzie
Memorial Chapel with temporary
entombment at• South Kinloss
